An opportunity has arisen for a n experienced Operations Safety Standard Manager to join the c2c Safety team.

What you’ll do:

The Operations Safety Standard Manager post is a core position within the Safety team. You will be required to provide professional advice, guidance, and expertise in the area of railway operations. Strategically, lead the production and maintenance of operational standards throughout c2c for inclusion in the c2c Safety Manual. Develop, maintain, and monitor the c2c Competence and Operations Training Management Systems.

You will be required to undertake assessments of competence of operational assessors and other managers and supervisors who undertake safety critical work in relation to railway operations.

This is a full time post working as per the business requirements 5 days out of 7) With an on call requirement

The post holder must hold a valid Train Driver licence. A transfer of Safety Critical Information form will be required.

 

Key responsibilities will inclu de :


●        Carry out safety checks and audits of competence management systems relating to staff undertaking operational safety critical work.

●       Undertake assessments of managers and assessors as detailed in the c2c competence management system.

●        Lead and direct the c2c Operations Training Team.

●       Interpret legislation, railway group standards and externally imposed standards to produce, maintain and develop procedures for inclusion in c2c Safety Manual and other documents contained in the safety management system.

●  Manage the c2c Document Control process including external and internal standards and documents, production of Driving Cab Passes/operational competence licence and updating safety section of the intranet.

●       Provide advice and guidance on railway operations matters for managers throughout the company, including production of standards, validation of training material and preparation of briefing material.

●       Provide input to and advice on developments to the company’s operations and rolling stock including:-

o  Cab design / new rolling stock introduction

o   Preparation & Disposal duties

●        Liaise with other railway group members to ensure a co-ordinated approach to generation and implementation of new Railway Group Standards, Codes of Practice and other operational procedures

●        Manage and co-ordinate investigations into operating incidents, determining the lead investigator and managing subsequent processes such as signal sighting committees.

●        Utilise accident / incident investigation results root cause and trend analysis to determine the need for new and improved operational standards.

●       To perform other duties commensurate with the level and scope of the post, which are or become evident to meet the needs of c2c.


What is takes:

The role requires an articulate individual with the ability to communicate and build relationships at all levels internally, and with external suppliers and stakeholders. The individual will also have the following skills, knowledge or experience:

●       This post requires a high degree of specialised knowledge of railway operational matters and previous experience of traincrew management or supervision would be advantageous.

●       Comprehensive knowledge of all rules and standards applicable to train operation on Network Rail controlled infrastructure and in depots.

●       The post holder must hold ENTO units A1 and V1 (or equivalent), awarded by a recognised issuing authority.

●       The post holder must hold a valid Train Driver licence to drive trains on c2c.

●       Strong IT skills including Word, Excel, and PDF tools.

●       Strong negotiation skills.

●       Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

●       Proactive individual who can work well individually and as part of a team.

●       Excellent attention to detail.
