ROLE OVERVIEW //


Our Disputes and Investigations (DI) group has an outstanding international reputation. We have an impressive client base, which includes leading financial institutions, global corporates, governments and international organisations. We handle a wide range of civil disputes and proceedings as well as allegations involving white-collar crime and criminal proceedings arising in a corporate context. We act in complex, high value, multi-jurisdictional litigation and arbitrations in the United Kingdom and abroad, as well as handling all other forms of dispute resolution, including mediations.


The DI Group is made up of approximately 13 Partners, over 110 Associates and about 29 Trainee Solicitors. Fee-earners are supported by a practice support team consisting of Professional Support Lawyers (PSLs), and Knowledge and Information, Business Development and Project Management teams.


Sitting alongside the fee earning legal teams is a Legal Operations unit and it is within this unit that this role sits. The Legal Operations unit currently consists of a team of Paralegals, an e-Disclosure Team and a Evidence Review Management Team.


We are now looking to expand our Paralegal Team. The current team has done an outstanding job of delivering high quality work, as a result of which it is now experiencing significant increased demand in many areas of the business.


It is intended that successful Applicants to this role will experience a diverse and broad range of experiences, cutting across technology, legal operations and legal design, working closely with Associates and with our Review Management and eDisclosure Teams. This is a role that offers more than a traditional paralegal role and comes with it a defined career pathway and plenty of responsibility.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES //


The key (non-exhaustive) responsibilities of this role are set out below:


Paralegal tasks

  • Creating, updating and amending bundles/indexes both for court and counsel
  • Reviewing documents both on electronic platforms and hardcopy when required and producing appropriate materials
  • Trial and hearing preparation
  • Document storage, tracking and formatting using Excel, Fstores and various other platforms and or software
  • Correspondence tracking and storage
  • Checking references in Witness Statements, Expert Reports and Statements and Exhibits


Legal Operations

  • Working closely with and supporting the eDisclosure team and Evidence Review Managers in assisting the delivery of large scale document reviews and investigations
  • Assisting with costs estimation throughout the lifecycle of a matter
  • Implement innovative ideas and advanced technologies to improve efficacy and streamline processes within the department
  • Ongoing reporting regarding budgets and review metrics




CANDIDATE PROFILE //


Candidates for this position must have:


  • Strong academic qualifications: 2:1 degree or above (in any field, does not have to be a legal qualification)
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise work effectively
  • Highly competent written and spoken communication, confidence interacting professionally with a broad range of people, including lawyers and members of Business Services of varying levels
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and pro-actively
  • Ability to pick up new legal concepts and terminology quickly
  • Excellent research skills and eye for detail
  • Good IT skills and an ability to learn new IT systems quickly
  • Good team player, ability to adapt and fit into a diverse team, reliable, flexible and willing to take on new challenges
  • High level of professionalism and integrity; displays the highest standard of professional ethics
