What we’re looking for 

Adult Learning Lewisham requires an experienced and committed balloon decoration/event styling tutor to join the existing Textile & Floral design team.  You will be delivering short  termly workshop courses (often between 1-6 weekly sessions per individual course) throughout the academic year in Granville Park, Lewisham SE13 from September 2024.  Courses will be aimed at complete beginners, and will then progress to also offer development opportunities for improvers.  Sessions usually run for 2.5- 3 hours, currently on Monday evenings until 21.30pm. There may also be the potential to develop additional classes at alternative times or days, according to your availability and learner feedback & demand.

The post requires a tutor who can:

  • Deliver all aspects of contemporary air-based practical balloon decoration/styling, suitable for home or smaller scale event work.  The classes will have approximately 8-10 adult learners of varying ages & backgrounds
  • Work directly with the Curriculum Leader to develop a programme of classes that will specifically meet learner needs & interests, including potential freelance or self-employment aspirations.
  • Produce course documentation to support teaching & learning – for example; scheme of work, lesson plan, electronic registers and developing resources for the course online learning environment.
  • Support the learners to develop the set course & individual learning goals and complete the relevant documentation for this.
  • Regularly attend tutor meetings and complete mandatory training and opportunities for ongoing professional development.

Applicants should have recognised subject qualifications up to at least level 4, and ideally have experience of working in an adult learning environment.  They would preferably have either professional industry experience, and/or be self-employed in the field- and having an up to date working knowledge of current industry trends & techniques is essential.  They should also be willing to gain a recognised first stage adult teaching qualification if they do not already have one.  The Granville Park centre is a 2 minute walk from both Lewisham train and DLR stations and a large number of regular bus links.  There is also free parking close by, but not directly onsite.

Salary details  

£32.78 per hour
