Swindon, Newport, or Billingham – flexible and hybrid working options

We are responsible for providing a range of payroll & pensions services for our clients.


We have an opportunity for an experienced payroll SME to lead UKSBS’s payroll activities in scoping and developing new systems in conjunction with our Government clients and ensuring their smooth implementation into business-as-usual services.

You will work with client Programme Teams and UKSBS Operational & Functional teams to assist in developing the future of the payroll & pensions service.  You will also have regular interaction with the Payroll Operations Manager to ensure that the new systems and their delivery meet client and service operations requirements.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading various programme meetings, planning sessions and workshops geared toward successful delivery of our new systems
  • Collaboration with UKSBS and client Programme Managers to establish specific payroll deliverables / milestones
  • Identify, from implementation activities where gaps are created in existing business process material and amend as necessary
  • Work with Service Delivery teams to organise participation of staff in testing events whilst ensuring no impact on business as usual
  • Lead the payroll activity involved in the overall project(s) including successful delivery of all planned end to end parallel run procedures
  • Act as operational SME for all pay related activities whilst ensuring that payroll best practice processes are embedded in the solutions
  • Engage and liaise with pension providers to ensure new system implementations meet their specifications and that these requirements are fed into the overall project
  • Ensure senior managers and Executive team are fully appraised of specific payroll implementation progress 

To do this role well you will need:  

  • Experience of building and maintaining effective relationships with senior internal/external stakeholders
  • Payroll experience at managerial level
  • Knowledge of working with SaaS solutions and experience of Payroll system implementation projects
  • Knowledge of up to date and payroll best practice
  • A proactive and problem-solving approach
  • Excellent leadership skills with strong customer and delivery focus
  • Analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present Management Information

In return for your skills and experience, we can offer you flexible and remote working options for a 37hr week (full time) with start and finish times between 8am – 6pm, or part time hours to suit. Our team usually work from home and come into the office once or twice a week, but we are flexible on this too. If it helps, there is even flexibility on which office you base yourself from - Swindon, Newport, or Billingham.
