Job Description

  • JOB TITLE:   People Partner, Group Chief Operating Office
  • SALARY:   £71,825 - £84,500
  • LOCATION(S):   Edinburgh, Leeds or Bristol
  • HOURS:   Full Time
  • WORKING PATTERN:   Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites

We have an exciting opportunity to join the People Partnering team in the Group Chief Operating Office (Group COO). This is a permanent role, reporting directly into the People Director and working closely alongside two leaders within the Group COO leadership team.

A day in the life of a People Partner is fast paced and ever changing! A People Partner works on all aspects of the colleague lifecycle across topics such as strategic workforce planning, recruitment, culture, organisation design, talent management, reward, learning & development, people risk, and many more. We spend a lot of time talking to business leaders, managers and our People & Places (P&P) colleagues; everything we do is about connecting and building positive relationships.

Group COO is made up of around 23,000 colleagues, split by 9,000 permanent colleagues and around 14,000 non-permanent colleagues (partners and contractors). The work those colleagues do underpins how the whole Group runs, changes and innovates; supporting by the platform operating model which continues to evolve and mature. We also support a number of specialist teams, including Group Sourcing & Supplier Management, the Chief Technology Office, the Chief Data & Analytics Office and Portfolio Management, critical to supporting the broader Group to make our business strategy a success. With the amount of change across the Group, it’s a really exciting part of the organisation to work in, where no two days will be the same.

As one of our People Partners, you have the outstanding opportunity to sit around the leadership table, working with both our business leaders and our colleagues in P&P and the wider Group to craft and deliver the people agenda. Our team is kind, encouraging and committed to making each other successful, learning together as we go. We may be biased, but we believe it’s a wonderful team to be a part of!

What we need from you
  • Excellent relationship management, influencing and coaching, developing trust through integrity and authenticity.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to see the bigger picture, story tell and join the dots.
  • Innovative and good at problem solving.
  • Collaborative team member.
  • Ability to prioritise and focus on what matters.
  • Ability to interrogate and analyse multiple data sources to inform planning and decisions.
  • Organisational and industry awareness with passion for bringing the outside in.
  • Experience of working within P&P would be desirable – at the very least, a validated understanding of the function and the key people policies, enabling you to deliver successfully in the role.
Key Responsibilities
  • Build strong and trusted relationships with executives in the Group COO leadership team and act as their people partner, working with P&P colleagues to deliver against their requirements.
  • Develop the business area people strategy in line with the Group People Plan and the Group COO Culture plan, driving our Group purpose and values to enable the business to succeed.
  • Grow capability within the business area to ensure colleagues have the skills of the future, whilst investing in the growth of the leadership team to drive effectiveness and high performance.
  • Support the leadership teams to land and embed P&P initiatives, products, and policy changes (i.e., Flexibility Works, Culture Catalysts, Your Best etc.).
  • Provide support and coaching to leaders and managers relating to complex colleague cases.
