Full Job Description

Red Snapper Recruitment are working with the Metropolitan Police Service to source candidates with recent policing experience and a public protection background who would be interested in 2 year fixed term contracts.


Role Purpose:


To support BCU detectives investigating offences within the Public Protection portfolio. This will include serious and complex investigations of rape, serious sexual assault, child abuse and domestic abuse.


Location: Can be based in any of the Borough command Units (BCU) locations across London, please specify your preference on application

Contract: Permanent

Work hours: Full time, 36 hours per week

Salary: £34,448 per annum, plus £1,841 London Weighting and an Additional Living Allowance of £1,000

Benefits: 28 days annual leave and civil service pension scheme


Main duties and responsibilities


  • written statements and video recorded evidence from victims and witnesses of crime, this will involve gathering relevant information by interviewing the person.
  • in the preparation and interviewing of suspects.
  • vulnerability is identified in persons involved in investigations and ensure the appropriate support is provided, including regular updates as to the ongoing progression of investigation.
  • collaboratively with partner agencies, including Children and Adult’s Social Care, health and education, as appropriate.
  • in the gathering of evidence by reviewing and collating documentary evidence relating to the investigation, including third party material.
  • applications for examinations of digital media and forensic submissions.
  • and presenting evidence for court proceedings in Magistrates and Crown Court.
  • internal IT systems to research and maintain records regarding individuals and investigations.
  • out further enquiries in relation to investigations at the request of the Supervising Officer(s).
  • work as required on the direction of the BCU Public Protection Superintendent or their delegate


Essential experience required


  • should be a minimum of PIP2 accredited or have similar experience
  • have relatively recent experience in Safeguarding and Public Protection.
  • investigative background, to include experience of compiling files (preferably of an investigative nature) and previous experience in dealing with people (in particular, in interviewing techniques).
  • of criminal law and Police procedures.
  • IT skills, to include the use of Microsoft Office products.
  • ability to appraise, evaluate, collate and present information/evidence obtained, in order to ensure that all relevant information/evidence is at hand and is of a high standard.
  • ability to communicate effectively (commensurate with the grade and requirements of the post) with managers, members of staff (at all levels) and members of the public.
  • and disciplined style working on own initiative to complete the task and as part of a team to achieve overall objectives.
