Full Job Description

Grade - UE07 £37,099 to £44,263 per annum (A revised salary range for this grade of £39,347 to £46,974 is planned to take effect from Spring 2024) 

College of Science & Engineering - School of Physics and Astronomy

Full Time - 35 Hours Per Week

Contract type - Fixed Term - 36 months

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher to conduct computational modelling of the biophysical mechanisms which underpin the formation of cancers after rearrangements of the genome. The post is based in the School of Physics & Astronomy, and will involve development of new course-grained molecular simulation models to study the role of the spatial organisation of chromosomes in gene regulation. The successful applicant will work as part of an interdisciplinary team, and in close collaboration with experimental biologists at the Newcastle University Centre for Cancer. The position is for 3 years; the successful applicant will be supervised by Dr Chris Brackley.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working. 

Your skills and attributes for success: 

  • PhD in Physics, Biophysics, Bioengineering, or a related subject.
  • A track record in molecular simulations applied to biological or soft matter systems.
  • A desire to work on interdisciplinary projects in collaboration with biologists/biomedical scientists; previous experience of interdisciplinary research and communication will be advantageous
