POWER SYSTEMS ENGINEER – WATER ENERGY NEXUS

Position Overview:  As a Power Systems Engineer in our Power Networks team, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing and integrating electrical systems at the intersection of power systems and water resources.  Your deep understanding will enable you to contribute to the advancement of renewable energy and water management practices as part of a visionary journey toward a more sustainable and harmonious world. 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, analyse, and optimise power systems with a focus on the water-energy nexus. 
  • Develop innovative solutions that integrate renewable energy sources, energy storage, and water management strategies to enhance system resilience and efficiency. 
  • Conduct feasibility studies, techno-economic analyses, and risk assessments for proposed projects, considering both technical and environmental factors. 
  • Provide technical expertise in power generation, distribution, and transmission systems while considering the interconnected impacts on water resources. 
  • Collaborate with clients and stakeholders to understand their specific needs and develop tailored solutions that align with regulatory frameworks and sustainability goals. 
  • Utilise advanced modelling and simulation tools to assess the dynamic interactions between power systems and water infrastructure. 
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and policy developments related to the water-energy nexus, incorporating these insights into project design and implementation. 
  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, proposals, and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to clients and regulatory agencies. 
  • Mentor junior team members and actively participate in knowledge-sharing activities to foster professional growth within the organisation. 

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Renewable Energy, or a related field. 
  • Proven experience in power systems engineering, with a focus on integrating renewable energy sources and energy storage systems. 
  • Strong understanding of the water-energy nexus and its implications on power systems and water resources. 
  • Familiarity with relevant software tools for power system modelling, simulation, and optimisation. 
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex technical data to support decision-making. 
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. 
  • Experience working within the UK regulatory and permitting frameworks related to power systems and water management is desirable. 
  • Professional certifications (e.g., Chartered Engineer status) and memberships in relevant industry organisations are a plus.
