Job Description

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will be working with our Product teams in one or more of our domains within the BA Tech Delivery Team to bring agile change to life. We are doing this by role modelling and embedding agile ways of working and applying SAFe as an overarching umbrella within BA Delivery.

Purpose of the role

  • Lead the creation of technical roadmap and support the execution for their product channels, in collaboration with Architecture, Products, Data, Cyber Security. They will engage with Delivery, Ops, Infrastructure regularly and be responsible for identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.

Accountabilities

Working in partnership with BA Delivery and the wider IAG/BA business to:

  • Lead software design to ensure that the overall system will behave according to its requirements in large & complex components.
  • Analyse, design and implement software mechanisms to improve code stability, performance, and reusability. Lead and actively participate in code review sessions.
  • Consider and evaluate potential package “off the shelf” solutions in association with BA Delivery Architecture to achieve the defined requirements (including piloting, prototyping and assessing cost of potential solutions).
  • Drive consistency and class leading standards across the delivery function, while championing innovation and software engineers’ technical development.
  • Clearly document appropriate information, so others can understand the software and the system. 
  • Continuously improve systems, solutions and business processes through working with process owners and other subject matter experts to gain a great understanding of business ways of working and challenges. 
  • Provide support on systems/solutions, building, testing and implementing fault fixes and monitoring the system to prevent problems occurring (e.g. DevSecOps environment). 

This role may require travel and working from multiple sites/locations. Willing and able to travel to participate in meetings, workshops, and other related activities.

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience

Skills

  • Proficiency in technical design and building front-end applications using modern UI frameworks.
  • Effective stakeholder management, balancing and finding compromises between opposing views and opinions
  • Ability to recognise priorities and guide others towards the accomplishment of strategic business goals and objectives
  • Dynamic, problem-solving approach coupled with the ability to create a positive working environment.
  • Innovation - transforming industry trends into practical, cost effective solutions  
  • Identifies and contributes to the continual improvement of software engineering capability across the organization
  • Fluent written and spoken English

Experience

  • Expertise in the technical design, build, test and support of large and/or complex IT solutions. 
  • Translating complex business requirements into system design, taking into account technical environment(s), ability of user group to interact with the system and expected life and volatility of system. 
  • Proficiency with modern frameworks and languages eg. React, NextJS, Angular, Typescript, next.js, micro front-end
  • Developing in an agile and/or DevSecOps environment, including continuous testing, code analysis, logging & monitoring, and continuous integration/continuous deployment.
  • Proven experience working in a resilient and scalable microservices environment and with AWS Serverless stack is highly desirable.
  • Working in digital product and Product teams, exposure to and involvement in SAFe Agile a distinct advantage.
