About the Role

Our Health Economics and Statistics division has grown significantly in the last few years, both in terms of the team’s size and their client work. As a result, we have an exciting new role available for a Project Assistant to join the team.

In this role, you will be an integral part of project delivery and divisional coordination across the division. You will work closely with Health Economists and Statisticians to support with a wide range of administrative, project coordination and technical tasks. The majority of your time will be spent overseeing the delivery of technical work to our clients in the healthcare sector, with responsibility for the smooth running of projects. This will include identifying and suggesting improvements to processes, as well as implementation of these changes, with the aim of enhancing quality and efficiency within the team and, where appropriate, across the wider company. You may also work on internal projects that contribute to the successful operation of your team.

The below sections are designed to give you a sense of the type of projects you may work across in this role:

  • The Health Economics team at Costello Medical develop economic models to inform decisions on the efficient allocation of resources available to healthcare providers, and to communicate these insights to a variety of stakeholders in the healthcare industry. These economic models are quantitative assessments of the impact of healthcare treatments, practices and policies, either through cost-effectiveness analyses or separate cost and benefit considerations.
  • Our Statistics team provide statistical and analytical expertise across Costello Medical, devising statistical analysis plans and performing data analysis within R, Excel, STATA and BUGS software. They are also responsible for communicating the methodologies and results in both written and oral formats to drug and device manufacturers, doctors and reimbursement agencies such as NICE in the UK.
  • You may also work cross-divisionally with the Health Technology Assessment (HTA) division. The HTA division focus on demonstrating the value of a treatment to help ensure it is made available to patients who could benefit from them. These projects often include the development of health technology assessments, which are formal applications to get drugs approved for us on the NHS. This work includes the analysis and interpretation of clinical evidence and the communication of the findings from simple and complex economic models in a variety of formats.

Key responsibilities may include:

  • Formatting, consistency and general quality control review of technical documents, including reports, manuscripts, statistical analysis plans, economic model specification documents, abstracts and posters
  • Supporting with the write up of methods and results of clinical, economic and statistical analyses into engaging reports
  • Searching online databases for model inputs and extracting relevant data into Excel
  • Reformatting of scientific documents to ensure adherence to client requirements and/or relevant submission guidelines
  • Assisting Project Managers with client communications on multi-component projects, and the production of progress reports and summaries that enhance the level of customer service delivered
  • Day-to-day co-ordination of the project team and monitoring of project timelines, in collaboration with the project manager
  • Scheduling meetings, recording minutes and coordinating their distribution
  • Coordinating logistics and providing project support for both in-person and virtual events and meetings, for example advisory boards and clinical validation meetings
  • Reviewing project budgets and proofreading client proposals
  • Assisting the team with the development of planning resources to optimise the productivity of the team and cross-collaboration between the team and other divisions
  • Supporting the accurate referencing of technical materials, including preparing reference packs
  • Ownership of tasks in our project management system to support the correct budgeting and invoicing of projects
  • Helping project teams to keep abreast of the latest potentially relevant sources of information and industry guidelines to inform their project work, and keeping all divisional resources up to date
  • Organising divisional monthly meetings and other internal activities

Within this role, there is scope to grow and develop towards the roles of Senior Project Coordinator and then Account Support Manager. This would see you taking on increased responsibility for the successful operation of the division and the wider company; this could involve implementing the latest operational, compliance or administrative processes, supporting with the division’s resource planning, budgeting, finance and productivity, or managing elements of certain project types. We also recruit at entry level for Analysts, Health Economists and Statisticians, so if you career ambition is to move into one of these positions, we would suggest applying for that role in the first instance.
