Job Description
The Virginia Department of Health, Western Tidewater Health District is seeking a Public Health Nurse Senior to serve as the Communicable Disease/Epidemiology Nurse providing support district-wide in response to communicable diseases throughout the district including COVID -19. Will administer Covid-19 vaccinations as needed. Services may be provided in clinics, homes, and schools. Performs nursing assessments, venipunctures, immunizations, measurements, may develop and implement care plans including the administration of medication and case management. Makes decisions based on program standards and protocols. Prioritizes assignments; may provide guidance to support staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be a currently licensed RN in the state of Virginia. Knowledge of computer and software technology (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Suite applications). Knowledge of the communicable disease investigation process as well as cause, transmission, treatment and prevention of communicable diseases and other conditions of public health importance and public health surveillance methods. Knowledge and experience in human rabies post-exposure prophylaxis. Ability to monitor/assess/manage physical, psycho-social and environmental health of patients/families. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to establish effective working relationships with clients and other healthcare workers required. Knowledge and ability to follow policy, procedures, and nursing protocols all on the local, state and federal levels. Experience providing adult & pediatric immunizations. Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload and complete necessary workloads in a timely, efficient manner by designated deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
BSN or equivalent training and experience preferred. Preferred previous public health nursing experience. Preferred demonstrated proficiency in VEDSS or other epidemiological data software.
