Salary:  £24,039 - £26,500 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Contract type:  Fixed Term Contract/Attachment until December 2024

Location: Office Base is Glasgow; This is a hybrid role and the successful candidate will balance office working with home working.

Job Purpose

We have an opportunity for a Purchasing Assistant to work with us in BBC Scotland. 

The embedded purchasing team provides support to BBC Scotland and in particular business users within News, Planning, Radio and Admin areas. The team will also provide guidance to support and encourage best practice in Procurement. Key objectives of the team include delivering against the agreed policies and procedures within the business, and provide effective support to BBC Scotland by developing a thorough understanding of the purchasing process. 

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

The main responsibilities of the role are outlined below:

  • Liaise directly with the Procurement Team in Scotland, managing the creation and updating of Purchase Orders as necessary and in line with BBC policies and proceedures
  • Act as a guide for all purchasing queries, and ensuring that we use appropriate channels i.e approved suppliers, catalogues, etc
  • Develop and maintain relationships with the business to ensure that procurement is delivering value for money, as well as our outsourced provider
  • Taking responsibility for compliance and authorisation procedures, liaising with Finance colleagues where appropriate
  • Creating and maintaining vendor records as appropriate
  • Dealing with invoice queries, and assisting business users with any issues pertaining to invoices 
Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience

We are looking for a team member that is focused on forming positive working relationships with the business areas in BBC Scotland with the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels within the BBC, as well as any outsourced suppliers or providers.  In addition, we are looking for:

• Experience/knowledge of purchasing/finance systems and procedures.
• Excellent IT skills; knowledge of SAP/SRM an advantage.
• Well developed communication skills.
• Analytical skills to help identify problem areas as well as potential for improvement.
•Proven ability to identify priorities and meet deadlines.
• Proven ability to work well in a team.
• Influencing & negotiating skills.
