Full Job Description

TUV SUD are now looking torecruit a safety engineer, in this role, you will be supporting projects as a technical specialist in the fields of process safety with an overlap into potentially explosive environments. You will collaborate closely with the Lead Process Safety Engineer and the Product Specialist for Explosion Protection, to assess, provide design support, verify, and validate functional safety & explosion protection measures for range of customer projects from cradle to grave lifecycle phases.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop Functional Safety Management Plans and Philosophies for clients.
  • Conduct HAZOP, HAZIDs, and LOPA sessions.
  • Prepare Safety Requirement Specifications (SRS).
  • Verify SIL (Safety Integrity Level) requirements.
  • Validate SIL on-site as needed.
  • Participate in Functional Safety Assessments (FSA).
  • Supervise process safety issues and deliverables, especially during FEED and detailed design phases.
  • Conduct explosion risk assessments as per DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations).
  • Perform hazardous area classification studies.
  • Conduct DSEAR assessments.
  • Assist clients in meeting project deadlines and milestones.
  • Coordinate with project management and clients.
  • Interpret and apply process safety & explosion protection related legislation and standards.

Qualification

Essential Criteria:

  • Degree or equivalent in an Engineering discipline, preferably Instrumentation, Chemical or Electronics
  • Experience within an engineering contractor or consultancy, operator, or another relevant organisation
  • Experience of working in the process industry mixed with a knowledge and standing within the industrial sector.
  • Strong interpersonal, organisational and customer service skills are a must.
  • A flexible work ethic is essential as the candidate will be required to travel during the week to customer locations, both nationally and occasionally, internationally.
  • Excellent IT skills and experience of Microsoft Office.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience with exSILentia and/or PHA pro.
  • Chartered Engineer or Chartered Fellow.
  • Understanding of the test inspection & certification process
  • Ability to conduct and supply Hazardous Area classification (HAC) drawings
  • Understanding of the requirements of COMAH
  • Good understanding of relevant UK regulations, such as The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 and The Equipment and Protective Systems Intended for use in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2016, or their EU equivalent.
