Michael Joseph specialises in commercial fiction and non-fiction, publishing bestselling titles in the genres of women’s fiction, crime, thriller, cookery, memoir, and lifestyle. We are home to authors including Stephen Fry, Raynor Winn, Nadiya Hussain, Dr Julie Smith, Marian Keyes and Jodi Picoult.

The role:

We’re looking for a commercially-savvy, unflappable and proactive Sales Manager to join the sales team on a 12-month maternity contract. Reporting to the Sales Director, the successful candidate will line manage three experienced Key Account Managers and help develop and implement our day-to-day retail and divisional strategy.

This is a key role within UK sales, where you’ll have the opportunity to help shape how PRH approach the market, our partnerships and most importantly, our retailer relationships. We’re looking for someone who prides themselves on their communication skills and ability to maintain relationships, both internally and externally.

We are looking for someone curious, with a strong commercial instinct and an understanding of the UK book market. Someone who enjoys analysing the market and emerging trends and uses that expertise to inform our retailer sell-ins, as well as MJ’s acquisitions strategy and budget.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • Proven experience of managing accounts and working with suppliers
  • Skilled at building relationships, as well as a good manager who can nurture talent and foster a supportive environment.
  • A great communicator who is comfortable in front of authors, agents and retailers
  • A genuine passion and curiosity about the book market, publishing and our authors. We’d love to hear your ideas about how we can publish better and sell more.
  • Analytically minded and an eye for detail

Here, you’ll work with a breadth of talent who all play their part to make each of our books a success. Together, we make books for everyone because a book can change anyone.
