Full Job Description
This position will join the Scholar Support
and Data Services (SSDS) department within the University Libraries.
This collaborative team provides training and research support related
to data science, digital scholarship, and scholarly
communication.
This is a graduate student assistant position for Fall 2024 and Spring 2025, with a half-time appointment. The assistantship may be extended further based on the candidate's success and needs of the department.
The multifaceted nature of the department provides opportunities for an applicant to engage in areas that relate to their specific skills and interest. Potential duties could include:
•
Providing support to the campus community in areas related to data
science (Python, R), data visualization (Tableau, ArcGIS), and/or data
cleanup (R, OpenRefine, Excel)
• Designing and delivering
workshops related to data science, digital scholarship, or scholarly
communication in different modalities
• Incorporating
instructional design methods to adapt face-to-face workshops delivered
by the applicant or SSDS members into asynchronous learning objects
(e.g., videos, webpages)
• Developing infographics or other data
visualizations to communicate information related to the library's
collection, which includes physical books, e-books, databases, and
other electronic resources.
• Demonstrated skills in oral and written
communication
• Ability to work effectively within a
collaborative environment
• Able to problem solve and manage
multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred qualifications
• Working knowledge of R, Python, or Unix, or willingness to
learn
• Familiarity with software used for data analysis (e.g.
SPSS, SAS, Python, R), data visualization (e.g. Tableau, ArcGIS,
ggplot, matplotlib), data cleanup (e.g. MS Excel, pandas, dplyr), or
text analysis
