Description

We are currently recruiting qualified, highly skilled Section/ Sector Managers (Aquaculture Farmers) to support our business.

Dependent on your skills and experience, these roles may see you supporting and leading hatchery, grow out or farm support activities. 

The role of all Section/ Sector Manager (Aquaculture Farmer) will be to ensure appropriate planning, organisation, control, coordination and performance of farming operations related to breeding and raising prawns and other aquatic stock. 

All Section/ Sector Managers (Aquaculture Farmers) will be responsible for:

  • monitoring performance and ensure processes and governance obligations are maintained across the site
  • planning and coordinating the operation of facility operations taking into account environmental and market factors
  • coordinating and overseeing strategies to monitor the environment to maintain optimal growing conditions, minimise the impact of operations on the environment and manage biosecurity and other risks 
  • coordinating and overseeing strategies to monitor and maintain the health, welfare and condition of aquatic stock
  • directing and overseeing general hatchery and/ or farm activities including the provision and maintenance of facility infrastructure and equipment
  • overseeing data collection and analysis
  • managing business capital including forecasting, planning and budget management
  • actively supporting a culture of sustainability by participating and implementing organisational initiatives 
  • selecting, training and leading staff and contractors to ensure optimized performance and efficiencies
  • working with the Maintenance Manager, ensure appropriate maintenance schedules are in place for plant and equipment as deemed necessary by respective specifications and good industry practice

 

Specific to the area of engagement, and in addition to the core role requirements, additional focus will be on:

Sector Manager (Aquaculture Farmer)

  • overseeing and undertaking breeding, feeding and nutrition programs
  • overseeing transportation of aquatic stock to new tanks, ponds and pens
  • organising the purchase and transportation of aquatic stock
  • maintaining and evaluating records of hatchery and/or farm activities, monitoring market activity and planning production accordingly
  • providing oversight of, and assistance to, domestication programs and trials

Section Manager -  Farm Support (Aquaculture Farmer)

  • working with the Manager - Farm Grow Out regarding harvest planning including developing schedules and programs to ensure harvest complies to agreed plan
  • ensuring “in pond support” activities remain compliant with safe work practices, environmental factors and optimal prawn development and growth
  • maintaining a high level of knowledge and understanding of best practice in relation to aeration systems and pond management, including preventative and reactive maintenance requirements/ solutions
  • education and training of support teams on emerging and new technology related to pond systems and management



Skills And Experiences

To be shortlisted for this role, you will require:

Qualifications

  • Degree in Aquaculture, or similar discipline (e.g., Fisheries, Aquaculture engineering, Marine biology)

Experience

  • Extensive relevant industry experience, minimum of 10 years’ working knowledge of a prawn/shrimp farm.
  • Specific experience with Penaeus monodon is preferred but other species such as L Vannamei and F. merguensis or F. indicus are acceptable.
  • Demonstrated progression of management & supervisory roles within a technical and commercial aquaculture setting.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced, result-oriented environment; proven ability to execute quickly and creatively solve problems
  • Detail oriented and meticulous.
  • Demonstrated experience with managing relationships.
  • Proven ability to handle ambiguity and to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams or alone.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and provide technical mentorship.
