Senior Civil Structural Designer


Job Overview:

The Senior Civil structural Designer Lead supervises and leads the civil/structural designers and technicians for all phases of civil/structural design work for onshore projects. Ensures teams are provided with the correct resources to ensure quality and timely of deliverables. Assists in planning schedules and manpower requirements for projects. Assumes responsibility for cost, schedule, quantity and budget control. Ensures effective communications among other engineering disciplines and effective management of change. Responsible for assigning various design/drafting tasks to personnel with appropriate skill levels both in the London office and High Value Engineering Centres. Assumes responsibility for quality of deliverables throughout the design. Maintains and promotes a focus on the end product whether engineering, fabrication or construction. Is proactive and flexible to adapt to different work environments.


Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Utilising design system for the production of complex civil/structural design deliverables.
  • Generates engineering drawings and bulk material take offs for civil/structural materials.
  • Checks drawings before issuing to ensure quality of deliverables
  • Support development of junior designers. May be the Civil/Structural Design Lead for an assigned project.
  • Maintains and promotes a focus on end product whether engineering, fabrication or construction.
  • Ensures effective communications among other engineering disciplines.
  • If required works independently in an Area Lead role and delivers the planned work on time and to high technical standards.
  • If required, assists and shadow the Principal Designer in the planning and execution of the wider project.
  • Ensure that technically acceptable drawings are delivered within budget and program
  • Ensure that drawings provide a constructible and safe solution in fabrication and construction
  • Ensure that details provide a cost effective solution to installers

Basic Qualifications:

  • Knowledgeable with Structural concepts and typical arrangements in steel and concrete
  • Knowledgeable with Substructure and superstructure details and materials
  • Knowledgeable with drainage and water supply
  • Knowledgeable with Site works, temporary works, cut and fill
  • Familiar with Construction drawings, documents and CAD techniques
  • Familiar with Structural Steel Arrangements
  • Knowledgeable with Foundation G.A and R.C Detail
  • Knowledgeable with Paving and U.G Layouts
  • Knowledgeable with Interpretation of Multi-discipline Information
  • Familiar with Interpretation of Vendor Information
  • Experience in Assumption of go-by data
  • Experience in Online Clash Checking
  • Familiar on Material Take-Off
  • Fully conversant with at least one of the following software: E3D or SmartPlan 3D (S3D)
  • Familiar with a recent version of AutoCAD
  • Experience in Civil 3D would be a beneficial
  • With HNC / HND Civil Engineering Certificate / Diploma, eligible for technician membership of Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)
  • Typically 10 years of experience in design modeling, drafting and design with 5 years industry experience with major contractor or consultant for Oil & Gas or LNG industries.
  • Knowledge of AVEVA EBD and ability to write macros and add catalogue items would be beneficial
  • Good communication and demonstrable man management skills
  • Primarily UK based but may be required to take occasional assignments elsewhere.
