Job Introduction

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the management team for the national English language radio station for Wales - BBC Radio Wales. An ideal role for someone looking for leadership, editorial experience and progression.

BBC Radio Wales produces 140 hours of output a week, from production bases across Wales, with a broad range of content - including News, Politics, Sport, Entertainment, Comedy and Music.  The religious programmes department at Radio Wales produces a range of pre-recorded and live programmes across Radio Wales and Radio 4. The department is responsible for some 300 broadcasts per year.

Main Responsibilities

At BBC Radio Wales, we’re passionate about creating radio which sits at the heart of Welsh life.  We entertain our listeners while informing and educating them – but we want to go further than that: we’ll surprise our audience, delight them – not just sometimes, but every day. We’re the home of a diverse range of programmes and presenters.  We’re warm, we’re welcoming, and hearing from and interacting with our listeners is an essential part of our daily output - because BBC Radio Wales is somewhere our audience calls home.

This hands-on role will oversee all Radio Wales and Radio 4 religious output, lead on compliance and editorial guidance for the productions and be part of a strong management team leading on station strategy. You’ll also lead on presenter development, holding regular feedback sessions and fostering potential new on-air talent.

Are you the right candidate?

You’ll be an experienced radio professional, with extensive Theology knowledge, demonstrating a strong interest in and high level of knowledge of religion of the industry on air and technically, be proficient in working with Christian music, with a wide-ranging knowledge of hymns and worship music and strong Editorial and Leadership qualities.

You’ll have sound creative and editorial judgement and be able to demonstrate the ability to oversee and exec-produce internal and external production teams. Working closely with the Editor of Radio Wales and Sport, the Managing Editor, and the Production Manager, you’ll shape and deliver content in line with station editorial priorities and the BBC’s policies and guidelines.

You’ll have the ability to engage and inspire  in-house programme-making teams, providing editorial leadership and guidance. Well organised and a strong communicator and planner, you’ll be confident leading change and delivering efficiency.

You’ll be a leader who has successfully developed creative partnerships and influenced key business stakeholders. The successful candidate will join the BBC Radio Wales Management Team to support the wider operation of the station.
