About the Role: As our Senior Project Manager, you’ll be based at our purpose-built Hemel Hempstead testing laboratory, that delivers product certification testing across a wide range of industry sectors and product types including PPE, Latex, IoT Security, Financial, Automotive, Fire Detection, Doors & Windows, and Construction Products. In this role you will utilise your engineering project management expertise in overseeing and directing a team of Project Managers and Development Engineers within our Lab. You will be responsible for formulating strategic project plans to meet business goals and objectives, ensuring successful project execution, risk management, CapEx control, whilst also being responsible for some of our more complex and larger scale project works. The Senior Project Manager should possess substantial engineering expertise, preferably gained within the realm of Research and Development (R&D). This role would suit an experienced Engineering or Construction Manager Key Duties:
  • Management and supervision of various projects within the Product Certification business stream, ensuring their successful execution from initiation to completion.
  • Lead a team of Project Managers and Design/Development Engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the team's efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Contribute to the formulation of strategic project plans, aligning them with the overall objectives of the organization and the Product Certification business stream.
  • Allocate necessary resources, including personnel, budget, and materials, to ensure the smooth progression of multiple projects under your supervision.
  • Identify potential risks and challenges associated with projects and implement proactive measures to mitigate them, maintaining project timelines and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, partners, and regulatory bodies, to ensure seamless communication and alignment of project goals.
  • Develop and implement performance metrics to evaluate project progress, team performance, and the achievement of project milestones.
  • Manage project budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure that financial resources are allocated judiciously to optimize project outcomes.
  • Uphold rigorous quality standards for project deliverables, implementing processes to review and approve project outputs before final delivery.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the project management process, identifying opportunities for increased efficiency, effectiveness, and innovation.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of various project management methodologies (Prince2, Agile, Waterfall, etc.) and their application to different project types.
  • In-depth knowledge of Engineering processes, standards, and regulations within the relevant industry.
  • Thorough grasp of risk assessment, mitigation strategies, and crisis management techniques.
  • Proficiency in budgeting, financial analysis, and resource allocation to ensure cost-effective project delivery.
  • Knowledge of effective stakeholder engagement strategies to foster positive relationships and ensure project alignment.
  • Familiarity with quality control processes to maintain high standards for project deliverables.
  • Understanding of change management principles to navigate project scope changes and their impacts.
  • Ability to lead and motivate teams, fostering a collaborative and productive environment.
  • Skill in resolving conflicts and negotiating with stakeholders to achieve favourable outcomes.
  • Capability to align projects with broader organizational goals and develop strategic project plans.
  • Strong decision-making skills, considering both data and intuition to make informed choices.
  • Proficiency in identifying issues, analyzing root causes, and implementing effective solutions.
  • Skill to manage time efficiently, balancing multiple projects and priorities.
