Full Job Description

The successful candidate will work very closely with the Senior Director, Group Balance Sheet Management to further develop and implement the Athora Group capital management strategy and framework and support on specific capital optimisation projects. On the capital strategy and framework, this will involve development of policies and initiatives to ensure that the different capital bases of Athora are balanced and that ultimately the shareholder value of the company is protected and maximised. On the projects side, this will involve working closely with senior stakeholders across the Group to help identify and propose solutions to support the capital management strategy but also ensure that the various capital bases and shareholder value is optimised. This position offers an exciting opportunity in a core, and high-profile, team of a fast-growing and active insurance group to help define and deliver key developments and initiatives to the benefit of the Group.

Key Contribution Areas

·       Develop frameworks and policies which incorporate our capital strategy, risk appetite and strategic aims.

·       Work alongside colleagues in other entities to integrate all areas capital management throughout the Athora Group

·       Provide thought leadership and analysis to support the development of methodologies e.g. ALM strategies, SAA setting, economic risk measurement.

·       Perform business unit strategic reviews to determine the optimal asset strategy / returns that ensures all obligations are met whilst maximising contribution to shareholder value.

·       Provide leading role in capital management initiatives within business units, from the perspective of Group Finance, in particular ensuring appropriate Group governance.

·       Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to win commitment from others.

·       Excellent business writing and minute taking skills

·       Strong attention to detail

· Ability to work on own initiative with a highly flexible attitude, whilst maintaining a high degree of confidentiality

·       Good time management and the ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the business .

·       Self-motivated – Takes an enthusiastic approach and is able to work under own initiative without need for close supervision to achieve results

·       Intellectual curiosity

 

·       3-5 years PQE actuary or equivalent qualification with finance/investment/mathematics focus

·     Technically strong with an ability to understand and develop complex financial methodologies and concepts.

·       Python / R programming experience required

·       Excellent communication skills with ability to communicate a vision and technical concepts to stakeholders with various skillsets as well as an ability to interact with senior management

·       Strong technical understanding of the workings of an insurance company balance sheet on a holistic level

·       Strong problem-solving skills with an ability to develop new techniques to solve problems

·       Background or strong understanding of European insurance products and liability risks

·       Detailed knowledge of EU Solvency II (preferably also Bermuda Monetary Authority) regulations
