Job Summary:

The Senior Staff Product Definition Engineer is responsible for developing detailed Product Requirements Specifications (PRS) which combine input from customers, industry standards, internal experience and system-level understanding. These specifications form the basis for the product development with the Senior Staff Product Definition Engineer involved from concept through to final product release. The role in Bristol is focused mainly on products for Automotive applications, specifically related to electro-optical components. The role will work closely with our marketing team to gain insight into detailed customer requirements, be involved in industry standards developments and write specifications using Requirements Management software (Jama). Excellent communication skills (both with internal and external stakeholders) are critical to be successful in this role.

Responsibilities:

  • You are responsible for the detailed definition of market-leading new products in support of the Semtech’s optical product roadmap, specifically in the Automotive LiDAR area

  • Work closely with Marketing & Product Development teams to review IC requirement documents, build consensus and ensure successful implementation

  • Ensure new products are defined with differentiating features and performance relative to market competition through close engagement with our customers and your understanding of their needs

  • You are expected to contribute to setting up the Automotive Requirements Management processes and procedures

  • Ensure new products are compatible with appropriate standards by keeping up to date with developments in ISO, IEC and other Standards Organizations

  • Work with leadership team to plan the future technology and strategic product direction for the division

  • Support various teams including IC Design and Applications Engineering with system level expertise

  • Creating system level models and simulations in order to aid in determining specific IC requirements and tradeoffs (nice to have)

  • Build and maintain relationships with customers by visiting them and attend standard organization meetings; expect international travel 3-5 times per year

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BSc/ BEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Microwave or RF Engineering or Physics. Masters or PhD candidates preferred

  • Highly skilled in the field of high speed optical systems, optical transmitter/receiver architectures, signal integrity and clock and data recovery architectures

  • Experience in automotive electronics and related requirements

  • Experience of complex analogue, digital and data transmission system modeling, using MatLab, ADS/SystemVue or similar tools (preferred)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. An ability to explain complex concepts in an understandable way.

  • A proven ability to build commitment and trust across all levels in a product development organization

  • Experience with Requirements Management software (e.g. Jama, Doors)

  • Experience with Automotive Functional Safety Requirement Management and Functional Safety Concept is desirable but not mandatory.
