Full Job Description

Shine Night Walk - Corporate Engagement Intern - Marketing, Fundraising & Engagement (MFE)  

Full-time annual salary : £11.95 (£21, 749 full time yearly equivalent)     

Contract Length : 12 weeks ( 8 Jan – 29 March)

Hours: 7 hours per day, 4 days per week

Location: Home based (any home based working needs to be in the UK) OR Hybrid - Stratford, London with home working . May be to travel to some events

Why we need you      

Cancer Research UK is the world’s largest charity dedicated to beating all types of cancer. We now have an opportunity for you to join us as a Shine Night Walk - Corporate Engagement intern.  

What will I be doing?       

The Events Delivery team works across the country to deliver large scale outdoor events including Race for Life, Shine Night Walk, and Pretty Muddy, alongside smaller engagement events such as Flame of Hope, Legacy Inspires and Evenings of Music, last year raising over £13 million for CRUK.  

Role and Purpose   

We’re looking for an intern to focus specifically on enhancing the participant experience for Shine London, and selected regional Shine events, by working with the Acquisition team within SLFEO (Supporter Led Fundraising Engagement & Operations ) to engage with corporates whose premises are on the Shine routes .  We’d like to encourage these companies to undertake activation such as cheer points, lighting up their windows, volunteering etc, thereby enhancing the participant experience .  Longer term, we’re hoping to increase and develop corporate relationships in these cities by using Shine Night Walk as a hook for collaboration.  

 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Liaise with Shine Event Managers to familiarise yourself with the Shine Night Walk courses.   

  • Collate a list of organisations with premises on / near route.  Find out contact name / email / number etc for the organisation.   

  • Liaise with Acquisition team in SLFEO ( Supporter Led Fundraising Engagement & Operations ) and work with them to prepare pitches for opportunities and benefits for getting involved in Shine Night Walk.   

  • Support Acquisition team and Relationship Managers in making approaches to companies.   

  • In consultation with Events Manager (EM) and Relationship Managers (RMs), work up a series of “Shine Engagement Packages”  

  • Highlight successes to maximise on positive PR for companies and CRUK   

  • Work with RMs to lay foundations to build on these new relationships for Shine 2024 and additional support for CRUK ( eg , Sports Events, SU2C Bake Off, staff fundraising)    

What skills are you looking for?       

  • Experience in researching  

  • Confident in making approaches and pitches to individuals and organisations  

  • Experience in providing excellent customer experience / supporter care  

  • Creativity and an ability to spot opportunities  

  • Experience in evaluating events and projects and implementing improvements  

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively, work efficiently and juggle competing priorities

Stage 1: Online application

Stage 2: Assessment      

If your initial application is successful you will then be invited to complete our new situational judgment test. The test poses real life scenarios that a CRUK intern might be met with in their day to day role and asks how you would tackle that scenario. This is un-timed and multiple choice. Please let us know if you think you might require adjustments for this assessment.     

Stage 3: Audio Submission    

If you are successful in the previous stage, you will be asked to complete an audio submission, answering competency-based questions. The questions will be emailed to you and you will have a few days to submit a response via an audio recording (no video ).
