Job Description
The Virginia Department of Emergency Management ( VDEM ) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of SAU Analyst (Wage Position) . The position is responsible for analyzing and prioritizing emergency notifications, data, and calls for service related to terrorism, hazardous materials incidents, medical evacuation flights, and other intentional and natural disasters. This information may be generated by the Virginia Fusion Center, the operators of critical infrastructure facilities, local area warning systems, local and national media, and social media sites. The SAU Analyst is responsible for developing and distributing situational awareness information and event data statewide. Our mission is to sustain a Commonwealth that is safe, secure and resilient. All VDEM employees are designated as essential personnel and may be required to work during emergency situations such as inclement weather and natural or human-made disasters. Minimum Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of standard communication procedures, principles and practices of emergency management. Ability to allocate and direct resources in response to emergencies with minimal supervision. Considerable skill in the use of social media platforms and data/news aggregation software. Experience with public safety radios and other related communications equipment. Adept with Computer Aided Dispatch ( CAD ), Microsoft Office and various web products. Ability to perform dispatch services with accuracy and speed. Superior written and verbal communication skills; ability to relay technical and sensitive information to diverse individuals and groups. Ability to work in a 24-hour operation, 7-day rotating schedule including overnight, early morning, and weekend shifts, as required by the staffing needs of the SAU .

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Emergency Management, Public Administration, physical or social sciences, or a related discipline. An equivalent combination of training and experience to perform the duties of the position. Experience working in an emergency operations center or similar command center as an analyst, dispatcher, or in a related field. Experience interacting with government officials and program stakeholders.
