Full Job Description

Empowering Learning are supporting an outstanding specialist provider in education and therapy for pupils who have suffered adverse childhood experiences. They work on a one-to-one basis with pupils aged between 5 to 16 years old and focus on providing a therapeutic curriculum focused on meeting their social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. They are seeking to appoint a Speech and Language Therapist on a permanent basis within one of their schools based in Essex , to start as soon as possible.

As well as offering therapy sessions according to your own specialism, you will have a therapeutic presence across the school, lead whole staff training and be an ambassador for the brand and vision. Part of the role will be to ensure that you maintain the integrated therapy and learning provision, aswell as being a flexible team player, able to offer therapeutic intervention that aids children's emotional well-being and learning.

You will also be a role-model of best practice and demonstrate support and care of the children at the very highest of levels, aswell as working collaboratively with colleagues (teaching, support and therapeutic) to maximise progress for children within the school and across the group.

KEY SKILLS / KEY EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Outstanding communication skills (with children, families & professionals)
  • Strong ability to work constructively and collaboratively at all times as part of a unified team
  • Able to work successfully with children with extremely challenging behaviour
  • Attention to detail, including in terms of presentation, punctuality and supporting the maintenance of an attractive environment for therapy & learning
  • Outstanding knowledge and understanding of therapy as well as wider therapies and their applications
  • Understanding of mental health in children, ACEs, trauma and the impact of abuse and mental health difficulties on child development, attachment and behaviour
  • Understanding of child development, learning and children with SEMH and associated SEN
  • Understanding of relevant policies/codes of practice and awareness of relevant legislation
  • General understanding of the national curriculum and school provision generally
  • Current degree level, fully qualified therapist in own specialised field & associated registration with appropriate body (i.e. BACP)
  • Experience of working with children & young people in challenging contexts
  • A range of experience in own specialised therapeutic field
  • An appropriate level of experience of operating in the classroom (or similar) environment with children with SEN who present challenging behaviour

Salary: 25,000 - 45,000 (Dependent on experience)
