JOB DESCRIPTION:

Abbott Internship Programmes allow you to build your own path using the growth opportunities and tools offered, that is why Abbott are officially the #1 Global Internships in the HappyTrainees ChooseMyCompany Index. Abbott is a global health care company, focused on making patients’ lives better for over 135 years. With sales in excess of $40 billion, Abbott is present in 160+ countries worldwide and employs 113,000+ employees. Abbott is made up of 4 business areas: Medical Devices, Nutrition, Diagnostics and Established Pharmaceuticals.

Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC) is part of the Medical Devices division. ADC designs, develops and manufactures leading-edge blood glucose monitoring technology for use in both home and hospital settings, including our revolutionary Freestyle Libre Glucose Monitoring System. In our Centre of Excellence in Witney, we design, develop and manufacture test strips and biosensors which are used by patients and healthcare professionals for the day-to-day management of diabetes.

ADC have an exciting opportunity for seven Student Statisticians to join our Technical Operations and Research & Development teams for a 13-month internship at our manufacturing site in Witney, Oxfordshire.

Typical work across both of our statistics teams include:

  • Providing statistical support to various different functions across the business, helping to produce statistical outputs and inference for use in presentations and reports.
  • Applying statistical techniques learnt within your degree in real world applications.
  • Monitoring the performance of new and existing products to ensure control, accuracy and looking at ways to drive continuous improvements.
  • Using SAS to analyse a diverse range of clinical, laboratory and manufacturing data.

You should be studying for a degree in Mathematics, Statistics or a similar numerical degree. SAS programming skills will be beneficial but not essential as on the job training will be provided. The ideal candidate will be a proactive individual who takes initiative, is able to work within a team and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, changing environment.  You will need to have good oral and written communication skills to be able to collaborate with different people within the department, prepare reports, interpret results, and provide effective summaries.  You must be organised and flexible in your approach to work, with good attention to detail in order to ensure that data and analyses are accurate.

Here at Witney, we also support our employees to live life to the fullest – whether it’s joining our couch to 5k team, dropping in for a yoga session, supporting Future Well Kids initiatives, there is plenty going on for you to engage with as and when you wish!

This is a 13-month placement starting summer 2024. Applications will close on 15th March 2024.
