Summer Work Opportunity for Qualified Teachers to Lecture on Under 18s Global Leadership & International Business Courses, Summer 2024

Opportunity Description: 

Bayswater College is looking for qualified Business, Communication and Marketing teachers who would like to work over the summer holiday period lecturing at a London summer camp. You’ll be lecturing in Global Leadership, Business, Entrepreneurship and Innovation to young international students aged 14 to 18. The aim of the programme is to give these students a university taster experience. 

We are looking to create memorable and interactive learning experiences for goal-oriented students who excel academically and have a positive attitude towards learning and collaboration.    

The ideal candidate for this role will have the character needed to create fun and memorable lessons, and an enthusiasm for creating learning tasks and projects. 

They will be able to create a safe and inclusive learning environment and will have the ability to adapt their teaching style to meet the needs of high performing students who are linguistically diverse.  

In terms of subject matter expertise, the candidate should have a solid understanding of leadership, business, entrepreneurship, and innovation, and be able to create engaging and interactive class materials and activities. They should be confident facilitating discussions and leading group activities that promote active learning and critical thinking. Candidates will be supplied with teaching materials, but they will need to supplement these materials, be dynamic and enjoy getting people to learn from doing. 

Job Title: Global Leadership & International Business Lecturer

Job Description: 

Qualified Teacher of Business or related fields to teach a Global Leadership, Business, Entrepreneurship and Innovation course at our summer camp for international students aged 14 to 18.

Our camps will be based at the following locations:

London - University of Greenwich (Greenwich Campus): 1st July to 9th August

London - University of Westminster (Harrow Campus): 1st July to 9th August

The courses will run in two-week cycles, so there are contracts available for 2, 4 or 6 weeks.

Role Responsibilities: 

  • Teach interactive and engaging classes with activities that promote active learning and critical thinking (70% of your hours) 
  • Create a safe and inclusive learning environment for students from diverse linguistic backgrounds 
  • Lead group discussions and activities 
  • Provide support and guidance to students during the course 
  • Work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment as part of a team of professionals 
  • Attend training and meetings to ensure successful delivery of the course (5% of your hours) 
  • Preparation and planning of the course material (20% of your hours) 
  • Administrative tasks related to the role (5% of your hours) 

What We Are Looking For

Knowledge, Qualification and Experience

Essential

  • You should be a qualified teacher of Business or a related field, with an interest in teaching and training young people in the areas of Global Leadership, Business, Entrepreneurship and Innovation 
  • Strong communication and organizational skills 
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment
  • Must complete Safeguarding Level 1 and Prevent training 

Desirable

  • Ideally, you will possess an EFL teaching qualification such as a CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL

Skills and Attributes

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office software including Teams and Powerpoint.
  • Strong communication skills: The candidate will need to be able to communicate ideas and concepts effectively with students, and to collaborate/communicate with colleagues, and other stakeholders, both verbally and in writing. 
  • Building rapport with others: The candidate will need to establish positive professional relationships with older teen learners while establishing mutual respect and boundaries. 
  • Time management and organizational skills: The candidate will need to be able to effectively manage their time and their workload in order to do their tasks and manage any unexpected challenges in this fast-paced and dynamic environment. 
  • Leadership and teamwork skills: The candidate will need to be able to work well as part of a team and also take on a leadership role in the classroom; feeling confident managing teens in a learning environment. 
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills: The candidate will need to be able to think critically and creatively to supplement our course materials and deliver effective lessons and activities that will engage their students and promote active learning. 
  • Adaptability and creativity: The candidate will need to be able to adapt to the needs of the students and be creative in finding new ways to engage them in the learning process. 
  • Cultural and intercultural awareness: The candidate will need to be able to work in a multicultural environment, be aware of different cultures and how to interact with them, and how to create a safe and inclusive learning environment.

This opportunity provides useful, practical experience in teaching, working with young people from different backgrounds and cultures, and developing skills in classroom management, instruction giving, task set up, and giving post-task feedback.

Salary and Benefits

- Hourly rate of £30-£50 p/h depending on experience

- You are entitled to statutory holiday entitlement of 5.6 weeks holiday pro rata

- Accommodation and full board provided for those wishing to live on site. However, there are limited rooms available for staff. Non-residential Activity Leaders should live within easy travelling distance of the centre. Bayswater Summer does not reimburse staff for travel expenses.

Bayswater is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. As part of our Safer Recruitment Policy you will be asked to explain any gaps in your work and education history. You will also be required to undergo a DBS Enhanced Disclosure check and provide the contact details of at least 2 referees, who will be asked specifically if they have any concerns about your suitability to work with people under 18. Evidence of eligibility to work in the UK must be provided at interview stage.

This role meets the requirements in respect of exempted questions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
