Job Description:

More specifically, this intern role involves the investigation of deep learning approaches to improve the bp reservoir model building and simulation workflows, with the goal of efficiently assessing the impact of geological uncertainty on predicted reservoir performance.

The role will be in the bp I&E Subsurface Technology Center of Excellence (ST CoE), which partners with and supports bp oil and gas, carbon storage and other low carbon teams in researching and developing innovative tools and workflows for robust field development and/or storage plans, with full consideration of risks and uncertainty.

REQUIREMENTS

- You will be in your penultimate year of study, working towards a Master’s degree or PHD in reservoir engineering or related quantitative discipline, such as physics, mathematics, or computational science, with strong computational modeling experience

- Experience in reservoir model building and simulation

- Experience in designing and applying statistical and physics-based mathematical modeling techniques

- Excellent design and coding skills with a focus on Python and/or C++

Desirable skills:

- Skills in optimization and inversion methods

- Skills in machine learning / deep learning algorithm development and optimization, including, but not limited to, feed forward neural networks, Convolutional Neural Networks, VAEs, GANs, transformer networks, etc.

- Proficient in working in a Linux environment

- Understanding of geostatistical theory associated with the population of properties in a gridded geocellular model

You will likely be based out of one of our main UK offices in Sunbury. The location will depend on business needs.
