Trainee Surf Coach (andLifeguard)

The Wave are on thelookout for aspiring surf coaches to come and join us for the 2024 season!

We understand abarrier to achieving the required coaching qualifications can often be the costand the location of course providers. We want to make this easier for aspiringSurf Coaches. We will therefore cover the cost of you training upfront, provideequipment and ensure you have guaranteed work for the season ahead.

The first step of your Surf Coach training will be completingour RLSS NVBLQ Lifeguard Course, running from 13th – 28th April. Youwill then work as a Lifeguard for a period of time before joining the first ISAcourse, running 2nd - 3rd May 2024.

In order to beconsidered you must be able to commit to the following:

  • Available for the duration of the 6-day RLSS NVBLQ course at The Wave
  • Can meet the timed swim target of 400m in 7.5 minutes
  • You must be available to work shift work, weekends and the duration of the school holidays
  • Being part of a team that consistently pulls together to ensure that we are able to deliver The Wave vision through the products and experiences we offer
  • Able to surf our intermediate wave setting here at The Wave
  • Able to commit to a 28 hour per week (possibly more) fixed-term contract throughout out 2024 season
  • Able to provide us with a clear DBS check certificate dated after any offers of employment and prior to commencing the course.
  • Provide two satisfactory employment references, one of which should be from your current or most recent employer

The Training Contract

You will be requiredto enter into a training agreement, whereby, subject to completing a minimumamount of hours during your employment you will incur no charge for the cost ofthe course. For individuals who don’t meet these hours, a proportionate chargewill be deducted on your final pay. The training agreement will set out thefull cost implications.

What happens at theend of the contract?  

It may be possible forthe participants to continue working for us as part of our casual bank ofworkers at the end of the fixed-term contract. We also hope that we would seeyou return as part of The Wave family in subsequent seasons.

APRIL 2024 PAY CHANGES -  As of 1st April this role will be paid at £11.73 per hour when lifeguarding and £12.03 when coaching
