An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Systems Design & Integration Engineer  within Rolls-Royce Civil Nuclear to work on our Ultimate Diesel Generator (UDG) project.

This role would suit an experienced Systems Engineer or an aspiring Mechanical Design Engineer with the desire to progress into a Systems Engineer role. This role is offered as a secondment opportunity for up to 2 years

Your role is focused on the holistic design and integration of the UDG and its supporting systems. It therefore requires a candidate who is able to quickly acquire a broad knowledge and understanding of the Mechanical, Electrical or Control Equipment and someone who will be able to adapt to undertake or oversee (where more expertise is required) a wide variety of Engineering tasks.

What you will be doing:

You will Generate, Evaluate, Select and document the most appropriate design or solution for a wide range of problems encountered.

  •  Produce and review design manuals (Operation and Maintenance Manuals), produce commissioning instructions and strategies and other design reports
  •  Assess supplier equipment proposals and review their deliverables
  •  Produce and manage equipment schedules to include valve lists, electrical load lists, instrument schedules, alarm lists
  •  Produce multidiscipline equipment specifications and component datasheets
  • Control and manage interface definitions/information both internal to Rolls-Royce and externally with clients and suppliers
  • Work with suppliers to define and carryout appropriate Substantiation, Verification and Validation of equipment and Systems
  • Present designs and information at design gate reviews.

This Systems Engineer role would ideally suit an individual with a background in Mechanical or Process Engineering:

  •  Knowledgeable and able to apply relevant UK, European and Worldwide Standards.
  • Proficient at working with P&IDs, equipment schedules, Block Cable Diagrams and other high level Engineering documents.
  •  Experience of designing integrated systems in safety critical environments, and documenting design rational and substantiation;
  • Able to plan their own and others work effectively.
  •  Demonstrates a logical approach to problem solving.
  •  Able to work closely and communicate effectively with colleagues in the Layout team, Projects Controls, other Engineers, the Customer and Suppliers. 

The professional level and the salary of the position will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful candidate.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place. Any dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks prior to commencing work with RRSL.
