Nexus Studios are looking for a talented Technical Artist with a focus on Shaders and Look Development who can help develop our real time rendering capabilities, as well as work with artists and directors to help introduce them to real time workflows.
The TA is part of
the development team and is specialised in shaders, lighting and
look
development. They will work with common nodal interfaces or
hlsl / shader code to develop performant reflectance models that
achieve the creative goals of the project.
The TA should
have a solid understanding of lighting and shading, both what happens
physically, how it can be interpreted artistically, as well as how it
is modelled in a rasterized renderer like a game engine. They need to
be skilled in material and lighting set up, and good at communicating
with artists on the appropriate workflows to achieve their desired
results. They should also have an understanding of what causes
problems on the graphics card, and know how to avoid issues such as
overdraw, high draw call counts and inappropriate shader complexity.
As with all team members, the TA needs to be comfortable with working collaboratively. The TA works with the Technical Art Directors and Technical Leads, as well as the CG Supervisors to achieve the technical and creative goals of specific projects. They will help the Art Directors achieve the desired looks across a range of platforms. Outside of the specific projects, the Technical Artist reports to the Technical Art Directors.
Your responsibilities will be:
- Help the Art Directors define the look and feel of real time rendered projects.
- Produce efficient shaders that respond to light and camera in a way that achieves the creative vision of the projects.
- Set up materials and lighting for the general projects as well as specific shots, scenes or sequences.
- Help teach the studio artists how to work with materials and lights in a real time context.
You will be
:
Comfortable with nodal shader interfaces and / or
HLSL/GLSL shader programming. Highly skilled in achieving artistic or
realistic looks through shaders. Knowledgeable about modern graphics
pipelines.

highly proficient
in
- Unity3D and/or Unreal
- One or more texture authoring applications
comfortable with one or more of
- Unity3D and/or Unreal
- Traditional 3d DCC Applications (Maya/3dsMax/Houdini/Blender)
- Procedural texture authoring tools like Substance Designer, Quixel Suite
- Texture painting applications like Substance Painter
- Sculpting and painting applications such as ZBrush, Mudbox
- Traditional 2D authoring applications such as Photoshop.
