Technical Lead – Containment and Severe Accident Systems Design
Derby, Warrington or Manchester/UK based – Hybrid
Salary
£50,000 - £68,000

We are now recruiting Containment and Severe Accident Systems
Design Technical Lead to be involved in delivering an industry
leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of power station.
What we’re looking for
Within this role, you will
be responsible for the design of the Containment and Severe Accident
Systems for the Rolls-Royce SMR. Reporting to the Containment Systems
Group Lead, the role will involve developing fluid system design
concepts through gated design reviews, providing technical guidance
and supervision to a small team of engineers, and engaging with
external stakeholders and regulators on the nuclear system design
activities.

Key selection criteria for this role are:
We would
like you to have experience or expertise in several of the following
areas, but we do not expect you to possess all of them:
•
Responsible for authoring and/ or technically checking high quality
fluid system design outputs in the form of but not limited to:
o
Requirements and interface management
o System Design
Descriptions
o Piping & Instrumentation Diagram
o A
functional Bill of Materials
o Fluid flow and Process Equipment
sizing calculations.
• Provide technical supervision, guidance
and coaching to systems engineers across the design team and develop a
continual improvement culture.
• Technically represent SMR in
interactions with ONR for assigned areas of responsibility, and
support the ongoing licensing process including coordination of
responses to RQs/ROs.
• Develop robust work plans to ensure on
time delivery, cost and quality is achieved for all project
deliverables.
• Understand the nature of the risks applicable to
nuclear reactor systems design and performance analysis and make
decisions in accordance with this understanding and the programme risk
profile. Clearly articulate the risks and manage as appropriate with
the Reactor Design Management Team.
• Ensure that quality is
maintained throughout the SMR project lifecycle by progressing through
appropriate technical reviews and providing the required inputs to the
main project technical review gates.
• Manage interfaces with
other technical functions on the SMR project (for example Power
Station Design and Operations, Severe Accident Plant Analysis, level 2
and 3 PSA) to ensure that a coherent technical solution is achieved.
