Full Job Description

Role Purpose

The Technical Procurement Buyer will oversee the purchasing of technical goods and services. Working alongside our procurement office, you will ensure all suppliers and subcontractors deliver in alignment with our company's requirements. This role is pivotal to maintaining operational efficiency.

Main Responsibilities

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Cultivate and sustain professional relationships with our suppliers and subcontractors to continuously enhance cost-effectiveness, quality, and continuity of supply.
  • Assist in building a supplier database to support the business
  • Identify and source components based on quality and price
  • Collect data and report supplier KPIs, manage non-conformance and always work on continual improvement across the supply chain
  • Working closely with our Technical Department supporting ongoing projects on all aspects of procurement.
  • Understands price analysis and can interrogate the Suppliers price to determine value for money
  • Collaborate closely with suppliers and subcontractors to expedite deliveries, ensuring that promised shipment dates are met and disruptions to our production schedule are minimised.
  • Comply with the Management System requirements for Health and Safety ensuring others work to company and policies and procedures
  • Comply with Risk Assessments, Method Statements and the Health and Safety Management System
  • Ensure compliance with the management systems requirement for the Environment and Quality by working to company policies and procedures
  • Take Health, Safety and Environmental ownership of yourself, others and activities within your areas of responsibility and raising all HSE concerns you become aware of, outside your areas of responsibility, with relevant managers.
  • Undertake other duties as reasonably requested.

Skills and Knowledge

  • A proven background in buying electrical and mechanical components in the engineering or manufacturing sector.
  • Professional Certifications / Member of CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply)
  • Proficiency in negotiation at all levels, with a track record of securing favourable terms and conditions.
  • Proficiency in IT systems, knowledge of SAP would be an advantage but not essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal and team-working skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and external partners.
  • A systematic, logical, and organised approach to managing a high-volume workload.
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and maintain professionalism, particularly during urgent and critical procurement situations.
  • It would be beneficial to be able to read engineering drawings or BOM and identify critical aspects of a specification
  • Ability to provide quality information within deadlines
