Test Engineer - Assistant Team Leader

Our client, a market leader in the Defence Maritime industry, is looking for a Test Engineer - Assistant Team Leader to join the team!

Under the supervision of the Test Team Leader, the Test Engineer will demonstrate self-motivation and flexibility in conducting functional and system testing on MOD and commercial equipment. They will collaborate closely with other project and team members, engaging in systems testing and engineering tasks to support project initiatives and develop solutions aimed at achieving project objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and policies, ensuring a secure and legally compliant work environment.
  • Conduct testing of electrical and electronic assemblies and equipment in accordance with established safe operating procedures, adhering to MOD and commercial standards.
  • Administer safety documents such as permits-to-work as necessary.
  • Ensure adherence to HV Switching safety standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering department to influence Test parameter design.
  • Develop resource plans and schedules to optimise workflow.
  • Monitor actual costs and schedules against established targets.
  • Maintain productivity levels while upholding quality standards across Test/Sensor department operations.
  • Lead and participate in regular project-specific meetings to keep stakeholders informed of progress and relevant issues.
  • Generate KPIs for the Test/Sensor department's 'cost to complete' and track progress.

Essential:

  • Minimum of HNC in Electrical/Electronics Engineering.
  • Test Engineering experience
  • Defence/Aerospace background is preferred 
  • Ability to work on own initative 
  • Team player
  • Knowledge of internal and ISO9001; 2015 Quality Management Systems
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001: 2015 Environmental Management.
  • Knowledge of 5S continuous improvement and 7W waste elimination processes.
  • Familiarity of ESD
  • Driving License (occasional travel in the UK and abroad)

Desirable:

  • Apprentice trained
  • Supervisory or Team Lead qualification (ILM/CMI/NVQ etc.)
  • IPC 620 qualification (training can be provided for this)
