We are looking for a Travel News Reporter to join us working for the Daily Star .

We are looking for a passionate writer who is confident in creating engaging travel content for the Star’s online travel section, from the day's biggest news to quirky, shareable stories.  This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic team and drive the Star’s extensive editorial content and digital presence within the travel section.

We’re looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds, and we want you to tell us the stories you believe are important from our many communities so we can continue to diversify our content.

This role is home and hub based linked to our London Hub. We are therefore open to candidates based in and around London.

Job Description

What will the role involve?

You will create engaging, quirky and shareable content ranging from destination features to travel hacks and exclusives that our audience will love, with great pictures and engaging video written to a high-quality in an engaging manner. You will deliver a fast turnaround on the biggest news stories of the day to destination features, travel tips and more, whilst bringing in exclusive stories that set us apart from our rivals. All while ensuring that every piece of content is researched and published in accordance with the Editor’s Code of practice.

You will be comfortable using your contacts to pull in exclusive interviews and news stories, staying on top of travel trends and hacks that you think our audience will love.  You will also be confident utilising SEO to optimise stories in accordance with our in-house digital strategy and work closely with the print travel team to upload content and maximise its impact online. 

This position is a Monday-Friday role working 9am-5pm.

Qualifications

Who are we looking for?

An experienced journalist with your NCTJ or equivalent qualification and media law knowledge , you have a strong track record of delivering a wide range of engaging travel stories at a national or major regional title while understanding what works for a digital audience.

You have first rate editing, writing and subbing skills, relish the test of working under pressure and to tight deadlines. You’re social media savvy with current SEO knowledge and ideally you're familiar with newsroom analytics and content management systems. You’re flexible, inquisitive and are on the pulse of what makes a great story!
