The Role


Options Technology is seeking an experienced Unix Engineer for our Belfast office. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, monitoring and troubleshooting our UNIX/Linux systems, providing technical support to customers and managing configuration management solutions. This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about technology, enjoys travelling and wants to be part of a winning team. 


We’re looking for someone who has technical proficiency in:
 

  • 1-2 years of experience with Unix/Linux system administration. 
  • Professional qualifications or equivalent proven experience in a technical support role. 
  • Detailed working knowledge of Unix (Solaris 10/11), Linux (RHEL5/6, Ubuntu, etc.). 
  • Working knowledge of DHCP, DNS, SMTP, NTP, SSH, NFS and various filesystems. 
  • Solid fundamentals in Linux operating systems and prior experience managing production systems. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with client facing experience. 
  • Basic LAN/WAN and TCP/IP troubleshooting skills. 
  • Basic script writing experience (any of Bash, Perl, Python, etc.).
  • Basic storage/SAN administration experience.


Typical Job duties would include:


  • Monitor, maintain and troubleshoot Unix/Linux systems. 
  • Configure and maintain Puppet configuration management solutions. 
  • Deploy and maintain automated installation solutions such as Kickstart/Jumpstart and PXE 
  • Interface with customers to provide technical support. 
  • Diagnose and resolve performance and networking issues. 
  • Develop and maintain system documentation. 
  • Develop and maintain scripts to automate system administration tasks. 
  • Research, evaluate and recommend emerging technologies. 
  • Travel to various offices in New York, London, Hong Kong and Singapore.
