Role: Welding Engineer (Deputy RWC)

Salary: £Competitive

Location: Doncaster (On-site)

Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Annual Leave: 25 days (plus 8 bank holidays)

Are you a dedicated Welding Engineer with a passion for ensuring excellence in welding and NDT activities? Join our team at Wabtec Faiveley in Doncaster.  As a Welding Engineer, you play a pivotal role in maintaining compliance with industry standards and driving quality assurance in all welding operations.

As a Welding Engineer, you will be assisting with the specification, documentation, and verification of welding and associated NDT requirements for Wabtec UK. Your expertise will ensure that all welding activities within the business align with industry requirements, particularly BS EN 15085.

What you will be doing…

• Act within the UK welding team as the Deputy Responsible Welding Coordinator (DRWC) for Wabtec UK.
• Assist with maintaining EN 15085 accreditation.
• Collaborate with the Responsible Welding Coordinator to develop, produce and maintain WPQRs, WPSs and instructions to enable new and existing projects.
• Qualify welders for new projects and maintain their qualifications by prolongation.
• Assist with the supervision and coordination of NDT and Welding inspections across Wabtec UK sites.
• Interpret and assess NDT reports (visual, magnetic, penetrant and ultrasonic testing) in line with codes, standards, and specifications to determine the next stage of repair.
• Assist with selecting suitable processes, tools, equipment, and technologies to develop Wabtec UK's welding and NDT activities and procedures.
• Provide engineering support to operations for welding and NDT matters.
• Assist with continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and efficiency.

Are you an individual with the following?

• An HNC or above in a relevant Engineering field.
• Experience in MIG/MAG, MMA and TIG welding.
• Experience in an RWC/DRWC/Weld Engineer role.
• Experience with a comprehensive quality management system (e.g., EN 3834, NADCAP, etc.).
• International Welding Specialist (IWS) or International Welding Technologist (IWT) with a plan to attain International Welding Engineer (IWE).
• Knowledge of NDT processes and their limitations.
• A good understanding of Welding and NDT Standards, Procedures, and Work Instructions, for application in UK Rail (e.g., EN 15085) is advantageous.
• Experience with mild steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and cast steel advantageous.
• Certified Welding Inspector – CSWIP 3.1 or PCN Weld Inspector Level 2 advantageous.
• Ability to read 3.1 material certifications advantageous.
