Full Job Description

Westerdale Group are recruiting for an "all round" PLC controls engineer working for a growing systems integration company, specialising in the intralogistics sector. 
 
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The controls engineer will be responsible for the specification, design and delivery of the complete controls system for automation systems.
This includes the electrical design, PLC and HMI software design and commissioning and fault finding of the controls systems.
Additionally, to this the controls engineer will also assist in providing 24-hour support to our installed client base via a support rota. Outside of normal office hours this is primarily via remote support with site attendance possibly required if the issue can’t be resolved remotely.
They will be responsible for ensuring that the control system elements of projects are completed on time, within budget and to the agreed specifications and that the implementation of the project meets or exceeds the customer’s expectations.
 
MAIN JOB TASKS, ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design and development of full, PLC based controls systems for automation systems.
  • Developing PLC code and HMI systems, typically Allen Bradley, Siemens and Rockwell.
  • Design and development of electrical control panels and electrical installations for systems
  • including electrical calculations.
  • Testing, fault finding / rectification and commissioning of electrical and control systems on their customers sites.
  • Preparing all necessary internal and external documentation in support of our control systems, including but not limited to supporting our clients in preparation of the URS, developing FDS documents, HMI/SCADA specifications, Electrical Specifications.
  • Working with colleagues in preparation of communications documents.
  • Development of internal documents that support as a standardised approach.
  • Customer training and handover of installed systems.
  • Liaising with and controlling external partners in pursuit of best in class electrical solutions relating to their deliverables.
  • To support the sales function in preparation of controls elements of sales offer and other deliverables.
  • Customer support, (mainly telephone but occasional need to visit site), being part of a support rota with 2-3 other colleagues, during which time on support being contactable 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. This excludes personal holidays, this is Frontline support.
  • responsibility for ensuring smooth hand over to Customer Support team including provision of ‘as built’ drawings, and ‘as built’ software (PLC and High level).
