Music in the Round is seeking a WeCompose Project Coordinator to administer our transformative in‑school composition project.
Since 2022, our WeCompose project has engaged thousands of young people in dozens of towns and cities. Working with professional composers and musicians alongside liaising with school staff and music hubs, this role is a key part of making this exciting project happen, inspiring young music‑makers across the country.
This role would suit someone who has experience running complex in‑school music education projects or similar and is passionate about delivering excellent projects for young people. It requires working with schools, teachers, volunteers, children and young people, so some knowledge of how schools operate within their academic timeframes and safeguarding requirements is needed. Attention to detail and first‑class administration skills are needed to ensure correct information is distributed, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills and a proficiency with computers and data input.
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and cheerful, able to work within a small team and to take responsibility for their own projects. This role requires working face‑to‑face and by phone and email with teachers, composers and professional musicians, so an open, collaborative approach to working is welcomed, especially someone who can be comfortable shifting rapidly and responsively between different groups with different needs. A person who is flexible and adaptable, with patience and a sense of humour, will fit in well to our small team and be made to feel very welcome.

Role SummaryRoyal Birmingham Conservatoire is looking to appoint a Head of Young RBC, to be responsible for leadership and co‑ordination of all its activities with young people under 18, including its thriving Junior Department and Learning & Participation programme. This is a new strategic role, to replace the long‑serving Head of RBC Juniors Tim English, who retires at the end of September. The Head will work alongside colleagues in the Juniors and L & P teams to deliver an exciting and inclusive programme of activities, and will add to these some new provision in theatre and musical theatre. They will work alongside RBC’s Heads of Department and Events team to maximise our reach and reputation within the arts education sector, in order to support our recruitment activities and growth ambitions. They will also be responsible for safeguarding across RBC.
Responsibilities- Lead and develop RBC Juniors, providing direction and support to staff and coordinators.
- Drive the development of innovative programmes for young musicians and actors.
- Work closely with colleagues across the Conservatoire to support recruitment, performance opportunities and student progression.
- Build strong partnerships with schools, arts organisations and external stakeholders.
- Support fundraising initiatives and help widen access through bursaries and financial support.
- Manage budgets, set targets and oversee the financial performance of the department.
- Lead on safeguarding for all under‑18 activities and ensure compliance with relevant policies and legislation.
- Represent the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire within Birmingham City University and at external events.
- Extensive experience within the music education sector and a strong understanding of pathways into conservatoire education.
- Proven leadership and people management experience.
- Knowledge of safeguarding and working with children and young people.
- Experience of leading strategic projects and driving positive change.
- Strong financial and budget management skills.
- Experience of developing partnerships and securing external funding.
- The ability to collaborate effectively, influence others and inspire high performance.
- Experience within higher education, conservatoires, theatre or the wider West Midlands would be advantageous.
The appointed candidate will normally be employed through our subsidiary company, BCU Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University. Appointees with prior LGPS membership who wish to re‑enter the scheme may do so and will be employed directly by the University.

The NYO Inspire Manager plays a central role in delivering this work. Working closely with the Head of NYO Inspire and Inspire Producer, you will lead the operational planning and delivery of NYO Inspire activity, ensuring projects are safe, inclusive, well‑organised and delivered to a consistently high standard. You will oversee logistics, participant administration, communications, venues, travel, accommodation and equipment, while helping to create an outstanding experience for young people, tutors, artists and partner organisations. This is a varied role combining project management, operational planning, participant administration and on‑the‑ground delivery.
You will play a key role in ensuring activity runs smoothly from initial planning through to delivery and evaluation. We are looking for someone who is highly organised, calm under pressure and confident managing multiple priorities. You will have experience planning and delivering projects and events within an arts, education or youth setting, strong communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and a commitment to creating inclusive environments where all young people can thrive. Experience of working with young people, managing complex logistics and supervising others would be particularly valuable.
