About the role

Engineering is a large multi‑disciplined ‘professional services’ engineering practice. The team is organised in key customer‑focused capabilities which each have sub‑capability areas comprising single or multiple engineering delivery projects.

The purpose of this role is to be technically proficient in an Engineering profession and to deliver work packages on a delivery project.

This job role is based in London. Due to security requirements, this role requires you to be located on site during your working hours, Mon‑Fri 37.5 hours. DV Security Clearance is required. Must have lived in the UK for 10+ years to obtain clearance.

1. Undertakes routine daily activities and is accountable for system design, build, testing, validation, maintenance, and ongoing support of all network infrastructure components.
2. Undertakes the implementation of new and enhanced network technology that aligns to customers’ strategic direction for enterprise and remote site connectivity.
3. Maintains standards for global network infrastructure, including wireless, LAN and SD‑WAN networks and connectivity.
4. Manages the installation, testing, and setup of new network hardware both physical and virtual (firewalls, routers, switching, monitoring) hardware and software.
5. Executes engineering efforts to ensure currency and supportability of networking technology.

• Experience with enterprise and operator‑scale routing design using protocols such as OSPF, IS‑IS, BGP, LDP or RSVP.
• Experience with LAN switching in small‑ and medium‑scale data centre and enterprise environments, including RSTP/MSTP, LAG, MC‑LAG or SPB, and first‑hop resilience and security protocols.
• Experience with network security – MACSEC/IPSEC/802.1x.
• Knowledge of network design for security, including Firewall, IDS, IPS, including management & configuration.

About the role

This role is an opportunity to help shape and strengthen security service management, working as part of the Service Practice team within Protect BT Group Security Architecture, Engineering and Delivery. The role holder will support the development, improvement and communication of service management practices that help us understand how our security capabilities are performing, where they add value, and how they can continue to meet business needs. Working collaboratively with architecture, engineering, operations, delivery and business teams, you will provide insight, analysis and guidance that supports good decision-making, continuous improvement and clear service outcomes.
