Location : Field-based across Cambridge/New Market/Thetford area.

We are looking for experienced Vehicle Inspection Engineers to work with us on a self-employed basis, conducting high-quality vehicle inspections across Shrewsbury, Wrexham, and Ludlow!
The Role
As a Self-Employed Vehicle Inspection Engineer, you will carry out a variety of inspection types — including pre-purchase inspections and warranty evaluations — to the highest possible standard. You will work to pre-arranged appointments coordinated by our Stokenchurch-based deployment team, ensuring timely, professional, and accurate reporting.
Your responsibilities will include:
· Completing thorough, accurate vehicle inspections in line with company standards.
· Producing detailed, unambiguous inspection reports using company templates.
· Maintaining professionalism and excellent customer service at all times.
· Supporting pilot programmes and new customer initiatives when required.
· Travelling within your designated area and occasionally beyond when necessary.
About You
We’re looking for skilled technical professionals with:
· A minimum of 7 years’ experience in formal vehicle maintenance, servicing, or MOT.
· City & Guilds Level 3 or HNC/HND equivalent qualification (IMI or IRTE membership desirable).
· Strong customer service, communication, and organisational skills.
· The ability to write clear, detailed, and accurate reports.
· A methodical, analytical approach to inspections and decision making.
You must also have:
· A clean UK driving licence, your own transport with business use insurance
· Your own tools, and equipment in good working order.
· A limited company with Public Liability and Professional Indemnity and Employers Liability insurance

What You’ll Be Doing

• Ensure consistency and integrity of information across platforms
Operations Coordination
• Schedule and coordinate industrial services inspections
• Liaise with internal teams and external providers to ensure smooth delivery
• Support efficient planning and execution of operational activities
• Customer Liaison
• Act as a key point of contact for customer queries
• Provide support on bookings, invoicing, and service-related requests
• Build positive relationships and deliver a high standard of service
About You

Essential Skills & Experience
• Previous experience in an administrative or support role
• Strong attention to detail, particularly in financial or data tasks
• Experience with invoicing, billing, and purchase order processes
• Comfortable working across multiple systems and databases
• Excellent organisational and time management skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently in a hybrid/remote environment
Desirable
• Experience within industrial services, inspections, or a similar sector

A Day in the Life and the Impact You’ll Make:
As an Automotive Repair Quality Specialist, you'll play a vital role in supporting Volkswagen Group's Authorised Repairer network, providing expert technical guidance to help diagnose complex vehicle issues and ensure repairs are completed efficiently and to the highest standards.
Working as part of the Technical Support Team, you'll review and resolve technical cases, collaborate with workshop technicians and manufacturer specialists, and use your hands-on diagnostic expertise to improve repair quality, reduce repeat enquiries and enhance the overall customer experience across the retailer network.
What you will be doing:
• Provide expert guidance and remote support to assist the retailer network with the identification of technical product issues and adherence to process.
• Work closely with the Retailers’ technicians and the manufacturers’ existing technical support team via specified communication channels.
• With your practical workshop experience, you will not only support the retailers, you will also assist in the development of solutions to reduce the volume and improve the quality of inbound contact.
• Demonstrate a personal commitment to DEKRA Automotive Ltd’s Environmental & Quality Management System.
What You’ll Bring:
In order to be successful in this role you must have:
• Proven success in diagnosis on a range of vehicle systems in particular a strong emphasis on electrical/electronic systems.
• Wide experience in all aspects of vehicle repairs.
• Volkswagen Group Accredited Qualified Technician (or higher) is an advantage.
• Experience of Volkswagen Group Aftersales and Diagnostic Systems ELSA & ODIS is an advantage.
• Confident in technical concern resolution and warranty procedures.
• Very good verbal and written communication skills with high attention to detail
• Very good Computer skills familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite of applications
• A process driven individual that can both adhere to and simplify complexity.
• Ability to work on own initiative with attention to detail with flexible and proactive personality.
• Personal qualities of integrity, credibility with high-level of organizational and time management skills

As a Vehicle Damage Assessor, you'll play a vital role in ensuring damaged vehicles are assessed accurately, safely, and efficiently.
Working remotely, you'll use your technical expertise to inspect vehicle damage, produce detailed repair estimates, and apply manufacturer-approved repair methods. Collaborating with customers, insurers, and repair teams, you'll help drive quality outcomes, support repair decisions, and contribute to the safe return of vehicles to the road while maintaining the highest industry standards.
What You'll Do:
- Inspect damaged vehicles and accurately assess structural, mechanical, electronic, and cosmetic damage.
- Produce detailed repair estimates using Audatex, ensuring compliance with insurer requirements and manufacturer standards.
- Apply OEM repair methods and make informed repair versus replace decisions, including considerations for ADAS and EV technologies.
- Liaise with customers, insurers, and internal stakeholders to communicate repair requirements and progress.
- Maintain accurate documentation and support efficient repair planning, workflow management, and cost control.
What You'll Bring:
- Proven experience as a Vehicle Damage Assessor within a bodyshop, accident repair, or automotive assessment environment.
- Full competence using Audatex estimating software.
- Strong understanding of vehicle repair methodologies, manufacturer repair standards, and industry best practice.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and stakeholder management skills.
- High attention to detail and a methodical approach to inspections and reporting.
- ATA Vehicle Damage Assessor Accreditation.
- NVQ, IMI, SVQ, or equivalent qualification in Vehicle Damage Assessment or a related automotive discipline.
Essential to Have:
- Experience assessing commercial vehicles or HGVs.
- Knowledge of emerging vehicle technologies, including ADAS and electric vehicles.
- Recognised apprenticeship in Vehicle Damage Assessment or a related automotive field.
- Experience working with multiple insurers and repair networks.
