We joined a new partnership in Northumbrian Water's new Living Water Enterprise, an innovative vehicle developed to deliver large scale construction programmes in AMP8 and beyond, supporting a £3.6bn workload. Northumbrian Water supplies water and sewerage services to just under 4.4 million people and has worked closely with MMB and JN Bentley since 2001. In this time, the companies have delivered hundreds of engineering and construction projects together. This new contract will extend the relationship to at least 2030 and see MMB – which harnesses the contracting strength of JN Bentley and the design specialisms of Mott MacDonald - undertake treatment projects across the North East.
As a Senior Electrical Engineer you will contribute to projects that significantly impact our environment and communities. Working primarily in the UK water market, MMB provides the feasibility, design, construction, and commissioning services needed to keep water flowing and wastewater treated. You'll work on projects that make a real difference to our environment and our communities by enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of water and wastewater treatment systems.
You will play a pivotal role in shaping the electrical functions throughout the lifecycle of various projects. From concept design to commissioning, you will ensure that all electrical aspects are meticulously considered and integrated.
The role of a Senior Electrical Engineer includes:- Preparing and reviewing electrical engineering designs for water treatment equipment on our client's site. You will be working with Motor Control Centres, LV distribution systems, Cabling, Instrumentation, Industrial Networks, PLCs and SCADA. Systems will be both new latest technology and existing legacy installations.
- Producing and reviewing technical specifications and schedules for procurement activities, reviewing supplier tender bids and technical submissions.
- Supervising and mentoring our Graduates and Engineers assisting them to develop their knowledge and skills.
- Understanding, applying and contributing to design standards with a good knowledge of Client and WIMES standards.
- Positively engaging with the client, building relationships and supporting them to achieve their aims.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Chartered or incorporated member of professional institution e.g ICE, IMechE, etc, or equivalent experience
- Experience of successfully delivering high quality outputs in accordance with design, quality and safety standards
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders
- Methodical approach to problem solving
- A valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across your operational region

Overview of the roleAfter recent framework successes, we have opportunities for Senior civil engineers (design engineers) within our multidisciplinary Water Division. We work on a vast range of design projects covering:
- Water treatment
- Water distribution
- Wastewater drainage and recycling
- Desalination
Our clients include most UK water utility companies and many other governmental organisations and private companies in the UK and overseas. We cover all phases of the project lifecycle from feasibility studies through detailed design, construction support, and commissioning to handover. This offers fantastic opportunities to get involved in diverse and technically challenging work and support professional development.
To help us meet the growing needs of our clients, we are looking for civil engineers who will thrive by:
- Working across multiple UK and Ireland water companies
- Being part of multi-disciplinary design teams in project delivery
- Delivering excellence everyday
- Preparing design submissions to ensure compliance with contract requirements
- Undertaking studies, concept, preliminary and detailed design
- Interfacing and liaising with clients and other stakeholders
Essential:
- Civil Engineering degree or other relevant degree
- Chartered or near chartered status (ICE or equivalent)
- Water and/or wastewater engineering design experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Understanding of the importance of prioritising health, safety, and environmental issues
- Proactive approach, with an ability to adapt to changing scenarios
Desirable
- Strong digital capability (e.g. Civils 3D, GIS, Pipeline hydraulics software)
- Contributed towards the identification and development of low carbon solutions
