Consultant Haematologist (10 sessions).
Applications are invited for this replacement post to join seven other consultants (6 whole time equivalent) in providing Haematology Services in Tayside. The post is based at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee and Perth Royal Infirmary. The postholder will have a sub-specialist interest in Haemostasis and Thrombosis. Further specific interests may be developed following discussion with the existing consultants.
Ninewells Hospital is a busy teaching hospital in the North East of Scotland, with a popular Medical School and extensive involvement in both Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching. The department has six Specialty Trainees and 3 resident doctors. The department is a designated Haemophilia Centre and also provides BSH level 3 services for patients with haematological malignancies, including an active autologous stem cell transplantation programme. The laboratory provides an extensive range of routine and specialist tests, for investigations of bleeding disorders, immunophenotyping and haemoglobinopathies. An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Ravenscraig Ward for an enthusiastic registered mental health nurse who is keen to enhance and develop their clinical skills within this environment. Ravenscraig Ward is a 23 bedded mixed sex acute admission psychiatric ward within Complex Critical Care Services. Admissions will routinely include adults experiencing an acute psychiatric crisis with associated significant risks to self or others which cannot be safely contained and managed in the community, thus necessitating psychiatric hospital admission typically on an urgent or emergency basis. The ward will also admit individuals with a co‑morbid diagnosis of learning disability and/or neurodivergence as well as patients who are under 18 or over 65 when required.
As a pivotal member of the team, you should possess good interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal) and have genuine interest in working with this patient group. The post holder will contribute to providing high quality evidence‑based care and support to patients who experience a diverse range of mental health issues within the Acute Services. The post holder will provide care through a progressive patient‑focused approach, within a therapeutic environment that is underpinned by risk assessment and multidisciplinary working. Ravenscraig Ward is a dynamic environment, and the ideal candidate should be motivated, work well as a member of the team and support a positive and therapeutic culture which is focused on the ever‑changing needs of the patient group.
