Owens Group are looking for a motivated, knowledgeable and organised person to take responsibility for the learning, development and delivery of HGV driver training. You will be joining our large team of trainers across the UK working from our Carrington Depot.

Hours of work

45 hours per week

Specific Qualifications / Job Training
  • Driver and Training and Assessment Related qualifications (RTITB, RHA, SAFED and/or equivalent) (Desirable)
  • Train the Trainer Qualification/Assessor Qualifications (Desirable)
  • JAUPT approved training assessor (Desirable)
  • CPC Qualification (Desirable)

  • Development of Training Course Materials and Driver Handbooks, understand and adhere to Legal Requirements i.e. Health & Safety
  • Problem solving/logical thinking
  • Understand Learning Styles to get the best out of the trainee
  • Excellent time management, prioritising work to meet tight deadlines
  • Full proactive Compliance Management
Specific Skills
  • Full UK HGV Driving Licence
  • Demonstrate ability to prepare effective written and visual teaching materials in line with course requirements
  • Ability to influence and being able to communicate at all levels
  • Computer skills - Microsoft Office and TruTac
  • Good communication skills, interaction at all levels internal and external.
  • Ability to maintain high standards whilst working under pressure
  • Team player with a flexible 'Can Do' attitude
Specific Key Accountabilities
  • Assist in achieving full legal compliance with the Operators License, Health and Safety and Driver Hour Regulations.
  • Design and develop and deliver effective driver Induction and Training programmes, and regularly monitor and review accordingly and ensure Statutory Training requirements are met.
  • Implementing appropriate courses including tachograph, manual handling, fuel management, defensive driving and safety training.
  • Classroom presentations on Highway Code, Drivers hours, Safe Loading (Steel), Health & Safety, and working time directive rules and regulations.
  • To design and implement training and development programmes as appropriate to improve operational efficiency. Produce training materials for in-house courses and manage the delivery of training and development programmes.
  • Give consideration to costings of such planned programmes and keep within budgets as assessing the return on investment.
  • Keep up to date with developments in training i.e. reading relevant journals, going to meetings and attending relevant courses.
  • Reviewing data from the in cab telematics and Tachograph analysis systems including Driver Hour Infringements, MPG, Idling, Harsh Braking/Acceleration and agreeing a corrective training plan.

Shifts: Monday to Friday

Hours: 50 hours per week inclusive of lunch breaks

Salary: £18.00 per hour

Overview

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Trailer Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge and experience in equipment repair, with a focus on trailers. This role requires a hands‑on approach to diagnosing issues, performing repairs, and ensuring that all trailers are in optimal working condition. The successful applicant will be adept at using various tools and equipment while maintaining a high standard of customer service.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair trailers dealing with mechanical breakdowns and damage to restore vehicles to required performance in order to minimise/or avoid unnecessary delays.
  • Provide technical knowledge/advice/skill to other team members ensuring the best decisions are made.
  • Carry out weekly inspections of vehicles
  • Travel around local sites
  • Carry out preventative planned maintenance/repairs
  • Carry out all other duties as directed by the Company
  • Availability to cover call outs
  • Read and interpret schematics to troubleshoot issues effectively.
  • Use hand tools and power tools to perform repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Weld components as necessary to ensure structural integrity.
  • Assemble parts and systems according to specifications.
  • Operate forklifts safely to move trailers and equipment within the workshop.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area, adhering to safety protocols at all times.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by communicating effectively with clients regarding their trailer needs.
Experience
  • Proven experience in mechanical repair, preferably with trailers or similar equipment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems related to trailer functionality.
  • Familiarity with using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment.
  • Experience operating forklifts is advantageous but not essential; training may be provided.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills, demonstrating an ability to provide quality customer service.
