Manchester Metropolitan University's Estates Operations Team is seeking an experienced Electrical Maintenance Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team of engineers delivering reactive and planned maintenance services across the campus.
This role is ideal for an active, self‑motivated individual who enjoys working with a variety of people and can manage and prioritise their own workload.
About the RoleReporting to the Electrical Maintenance Manager, the Electrical Maintenance Engineer will complete a variety of electrical maintenance tasks on the systems installed in residential and academic buildings, including general and emergency lighting, lighting control, and small‑power and electrical supplies to specialist systems. The team also delivers an out‑of‑hours service, responding to emergency and business‑critical issues with additional salary contributions for on‑call staff.
About YouApplicants should be proficient in all aspects of electrical maintenance and be capable of managing and prioritising their own workload. Excellent oral and written communication skills, and a willingness to interact with a variety of customers across university departments, are essential.

RoleTo support this exciting new centre, we are seeking a Research Software Engineer to play a critical role in designing, developing and coding software solutions to facilitate impactful research. You will work closely with researchers, fellow team members in Technical Services and our colleagues in Information Technology & Digital to ensure development and delivery of software solutions to aid our research staff and projects. We are offering this appointment as one of two roles:
- Technical Specialist (Research Software Engineering): Grade 7 £35,116 to £39,355
- Research Technical Professional (Research Software Engineering): Grade 8 £40,497 to £46,735
- Analyse research problems, design software solutions, and evaluate results.
- Applying data analytics techniques including data pre-processing, exploratory data analysis, and advanced machine learning models to extract insights from complex datasets
- Lead substantial code and software development, including management of database systems to aid research projects in achieving their objectives.
- Work collaboratively with academic researchers, data scientists, Technical Services and IT colleagues to develop software solutions in aid of research projects.
- Develop and implement tests to ensure the quality and reliability of all developed software.
- Contribute to the strategic planning, ensuring alignment with the University\'s digital research ambitions.
- Possess experience of using Linux operating systems.
- Fluency in programming languages such as Python, R, and C++.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues related to software development and research.
- Understanding of fundamental data structures and algorithms for designing and implementing efficient software and models.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and services for data storage, processing, and deployment.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage effectively with technical colleagues, researchers, and wider stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver impactful solutions.

About the role
We are seeking a highly experienced Digital Education professional and educational leader for the role of Associate Head of the Digital Education Team (DigiEd). The DigiEd team leads the implementation of the Digitally Enhanced Learning, Teaching and Assessment (DELTA) Strategy, and develops high quality guidance, resources and training for staff to support excellent digitally enhanced education. The team collaborates with four faculties and education-facing professional services teams across the University, and co-organises the Annual LEED Learning and Teaching Conference for educators. The Associate Head role will report to the Assistant Director and will line-manage the nine Faculty-linked Digital Education Specialists, providing leadership of the DigiEd Faculty-link work and driving digital innovation in teaching, learning and assessment. The role also involves building partnerships with external agencies and professional bodies to enhance the University’s reputation and delivering core provision across DigiEd activities.
About you
We are looking for a significant track record of leadership and delivery of digitally enhanced education with specific knowledge of Virtual Learning Environments and other applications for teaching and learning such as Adobe Creative Campus, Generative AI and accessibility platforms. You will advise and support the Assistant Director of LEED: Digital Education to ensure that the DigiEd team’s activities align with the university’s strategic aims and priorities and to drive the implementation of the DELTA Strategy across four Faculties. You will have the ability to develop best-practice guidelines and mentor others regarding:
- Appropriate use of digital education technologies.
- Embedding of digital education technology through effective curriculum design, development and deployment.
- Effective use of the institutional Virtual Learning Environment and other digital tools in support of flexible active learning.
You will be a confident communicator, able to influence and persuade academic and professional services stakeholders. Evidence of initiative, creativity and judgement in developing approaches to supporting and empowering educators, and experience preparing reports or presenting at national/international level conferences, is expected.

About The RoleThe main purpose of this role is to carry out cross‑faculty research, evaluation and reporting on behalf of the Institute for Children's Futures. Specifically, the role will support the Institute’s priority workstreams of research, working closely with the Institute’s senior leadership team and its network of members. The role will report directly to one of the Institute’s Directors and will collaborate closely with the ICF’s senior leadership team and external partners.
This role is a unique opportunity for a committed postdoctoral researcher in the field of children and young people to make significant contributions to advancing the Institute’s research and profile. The role will involve building research connections and professional relationships with colleagues in all four faculties across Manchester Metropolitan University, and externally with the Institute’s growing network of partners and stakeholders in organisations such as local and national government agencies, commercial organisations, charities, and international bodies such as the United Nations.
About YouWe would expect you to have completed a PhD in the field of children and young people, to possess significant experience of contributing towards the evaluation of research programmes, and in writing and developing bids to a variety of funding bodies. Experience of working in multidisciplinary and multi‑agency teams, or in undertaking participatory research with children and young people, would also be considered a significant advantage.
It is essential that you have the capability and confidence to represent ICF to colleagues across the University and further afield, and to represent and advocate for both the ICF and the University in collaborative and decision‑making forums.
