Are you medically qualified and currently practicing in psychiatry within an NHS organisation, with demonstrable expertise in clinical research and education in this field?
We are seeking an inspirational researcher, educator and role model to join both the Kent and Medway Medical School as a clinical academic and the Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust as a Consultant Psychiatrist.
This is a joint appointment with Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust and approximately 50% of the role will be carried out under an honorary consultant contract with the Trust in adult psychiatry.
This is an exciting opportunity to undertake high‑quality research within an innovative academic environment, to initiate new avenues of research and to make an important contribution to the aims of Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust, the medical school and the partner universities.
To make your mark in this role you must be suitably qualified and an experienced senior clinician, with evidence of medical education experience, high‑quality research, publications and conference presentations, and an innovative and co‑operative approach that matches our own.
This post is based across Maidstone, Canterbury, Kent and Medway.
In this role you will- Engage in individual and collaborative research and scholarship
- Develop income from research, enterprise or corporate engagement
- Deliver high‑quality teaching to students in KMMS
- Manage, appraise and give professional supervision to Resident doctors within the Trust
- Ensure that Resident doctors working with the post holder operate within the parameters of the New Deal and are Working Time Directive compliant
- Undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients in the Trust
- Current medical qualification, full GMC registration with current licence to practice in general adult psychiatry with entry on the GMC Specialist Register (or within 6 months)
- A research or professional doctoral degree (PhD or MD) in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience
- Evidence of research excellence in psychiatry including publications in internationally competitive journals and conference presentations
- A Certificate of Completion of Specialist training (CCST) and approved under S12 or able to achieve with 3 months of appointment

For much of your shift you will be the sole Customer Services Assistant and therefore it is essential that in addition to having excellent customer service skills, you are able to deal calmly and confidently with all queries and bookings. The role is situated across campus in accommodation areas, academic buildings, central service buildings and campus service buildings and role holders can expect to work in a variety of settings depending on demand.
This role is for 5 hours on a Saturday or Sunday 08:00‑13:00.
Responsibilities- Receiving all initial enquiries from students, staff and visitors to reception areas, resolving them or referring correctly to other staff or university departments as appropriate. Assisting the wider campus services and university teams by signposting customers to the range of services on offer and how to access them.
- Maintaining the tidiness and security of the reception area and its facilities ensuring stock levels of office equipment, stationery and consumables are maintained.
- Using a range of university systems (e.g. accommodation systems, access control systems, switchboard, library systems, payment systems etc.) to aid in the resolution of queries and enquiries.
- Coordinating the issue of card/key access, where necessary, resolving or escalating any issues that arise as appropriate.
- GCSE grade 4/C or above in English and Maths or equivalent
- Experience of working in a busy and demanding front‑facing customer service environment providing excellent customer care
- The ability to demonstrate experience handling difficult and unexpected situations
- A high level of IT skill and familiarity.

Working on the Software Sustainability Institute‑funded DiagHam–ALPS project, you’ll help modernise the DiagHam software ecosystem through improved software infrastructure, automated testing, continuous integration, packaging, documentation and support for deployment in high‑performance computing environments. You’ll work closely with physicists, research software engineers and international collaborators, with opportunities to explore modern software engineering approaches, including the use of AI‑assisted development tools where appropriate.
As Research Associate you can expect to be involved in:- Delivering software engineering objectives for the DiagHam–ALPS project
- Developing and maintaining research software using C++, Python and related technologies
- Improving testing, validation, continuous integration, packaging and documentation workflows
- Supporting interoperability between DiagHam and ALPS and contributing to collaborative open‑source software development
- A degree in Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or equivalent professional software‑development experience.
- Software development experience using C++, Python or closely related programming languages.
- Experience with Git, Linux or Unix‑based environments, and complex software projects.
- Experience of software testing, validation or continuous integration, together with the ability to develop and validate software involving quantitative or numerical concepts.
