Role Summary and Impact Planning Director About the role
The planning team are the guardians of creating industry leading, unrivalled work at WPP650. We are central conduits to all specialists, striving to push boundaries and have a positive impact on consumers and brand.
In this role, you will- Develop an advanced understanding of media channels, channel ecosystems and planning best practices.
- Start to translate strategic approach into planning practices for specific client briefs and pitches.
- Have an advanced understanding of WPP650’s Consumer Journey thinking and planning philosophy across all client work. Including being an expert in a broad set of internal tools, as well as external tools to build a deep understanding of the consumer, the client’s business and its specific opportunities.
- Have an expert overview of the media market landscape, trends and start to build media owner relationships.
- Oversee campaign management, ensuring quality control and output is of the highest standard.
- Develop a skilled understanding of commercial practices and of the wider agency.
- Build and maintain client and agency relationships at a mid-senior level, to ensure a comprehensive understanding of stakeholders and client business.
- Own planning presentations including defining the inputs needed and working with the wider teams to compile work and meet deadlines.

The RoleWe are searching for a talented and enthusiastic individual to join our OpenDoor team as a Performance Planning Manager.
ResponsibilitiesMedia planning:
- Have an in‑depth understanding of media channels including where, when and how to use them based on the client brief.
- Have a skilled knowledge of industry media planning tools and be able to train other team members.

Campaign management:

- Become a trusted main day‑to‑day contact for junior clients, learning their business and ways of working. Ensuring that all requests & queries are answered with accuracy and in a timely manner.
- Support in managing a Planning Executive to ensure they are on track with daily tasks, mentor and challenge them with new projects to develop their career.
- Have a proactive problem‑solving mindset but know when to flag any issues or concerns with Planning Director.
- Contribute to a culture of innovation by exploring new technologies and approaches to marketing challenges.
- Utilize WPP Open and other cutting‑edge tools to track campaign performance and identify optimization opportunities.
- Work with the Performance Director to create macro strategy around key performance variables which should be incorporated in implementation (channel) planning.
- Interrogate historic performance data (where available) to determine or optimise the existing opportunity and key variables which might drive ROI (e.g. day of week, frequency, messaging, pricing, targeting options).
- Work with the Measurement lead and Performance Director to develop and implement correct measurement framework allowing us to determine success and provide data for optimisation (e.g. attribution, econometrics).
- Take ownership of the media plan which contains core ROI media solutions, with in‑built variable tests to ensure there is always a “test and learn” strategy in place.
- Develop breadth and depth of industry understanding. Becomes confident using tools, technology, techniques and systems and is able to train others.
- Comfortable presenting both directly from platform (OS, Architect etc) and developing a story from data but delivered outside of platform (Telmar etc).

- Delivers accurate reports with value‑added insights and actionable findings to improve campaign performance.
- Be accountable for the ongoing management of campaign budgets. E.g finance reconciliations.
- Bachelor's degree and experience in working in an agency environment, ideally having worked from Exec upwards so as to understand all elements needed to deliver an effective campaign.
- Very detail orientated and experience in managing multiple agencies and stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills, influencing skills and focus on delivering high service levels.
- Planning and execution experience of key ROI digital media, including (but not exclusive to) CTV, video, display, search, social and affiliates.
- Technology experience in order to maximise digital capabilities to drive ROI (Dynamic creative; re‑targeting; DMP/DSP; ad server, UTM, site analytics understanding).
- Teaches others the importance of accuracy and thoroughness so that sufficiently detailed information is logged correctly.
- Experience in building reports and using data visualization programs such as PowerBI.
- Experience with e‑commerce marketing.
- Experience in B2C marketing.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools and techniques.

- Strategic Alignment – eliminate critical disconnects between brand objectives and channel‑specific Retail Media execution, ensuring every pound spent works harder toward overall goals.
- Empowered Teams – provide strategic alignment and access to partner capabilities, empowering internal teams.
- Business Growth – contribute to business growth through integrated, innovative and effective Retail Media strategies, enhancing client satisfaction and retention.
- 5+ years of senior experience in media planning, strategy or account management, with strong expertise in Retail Media, including audience strategy.
- Strong understanding of various Retail Media platforms, their data capabilities and evolving offerings.
- Proven track record in developing and executing advanced audience strategies, including leveraging first‑party retailer data.
- Exceptional communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders.
- Experience managing strategic relationships with external partners and securing valuable insights/capabilities.
- A collaborative mindset, comfortable working cross‑functionally with various internal teams.
- Proactive problem‑solver with a passion for innovation and shaping the future of connected commerce.
- Experience in client‑facing roles, including presenting strategic proposals.
