Job Description

About 9fin

9fin is the AI platform powering global debt markets — the world’s largest asset class at over $145 trillion.

Debt markets are vast, global, and mission-critical, yet still run on fragmented data, PDFs, and manual workflows. 9fin replaces this broken infrastructure with a single platform that centralises proprietary credit data, deep analysis, and high-value workflows across global markets.

Today, 9fin powers teams at 300+ blue‑chip institutions worldwide, including global banks, asset managers, private equity firms, law firms, and advisors. The business is scaling at exceptional speed, with rapid expansion in the US and best‑in‑class retention driven by deep workflow adoption.

We’re at a defining inflection point. With proven product‑market fit and strong, global market pull, 9fin is accelerating toward becoming the category‑defining platform for debt markets worldwide.

The Opportunity

9fin has built one of the most comprehensive datasets in credit and debt markets: news, financials, cap tables, instrument data, legal documents, and ESG analysis. Today, most clients access that data through 9fin.com. But a large and growing segment of the market wants to consume our data programmatically to power firm‑level workflows at scale: a negative news signal triggers an automated credit review, updated financials trigger a portfolio rebalance, a covenant keyword triggers a sanctions flag.

These buyers (quant desks, data engineering teams, systematic investors, risk and compliance functions) will never log into a web application. They need APIs, data feeds, and cloud‑native delivery through platforms like Snowflake. At comparable financial data providers, this distribution channel represents 20‑30% of total revenue. 9fin is at the beginning of this journey.

The challenge is to turn 9fin’s integrated dataset into a portfolio of standalone data products with a coherent commercial strategy. You will define how the data gets packaged (what goes together, what stands alone, how it’s tiered and priced), the order in which products go to market, and the commercial models that fit each buyer segment: quant desks, data engineering teams, risk and compliance functions, and systematic investors. You will work in lockstep with the Head of Pre‑Sales, who owns technical validation and deal execution, to ensure that what you build maps to how these buyers actually evaluate and procure data. The first candidates pan news content, financials and cap tables, instrument data, and legal data (complex, high‑value, and genuinely unsolved at the data representation layer).

You will work cross‑functionally across our platform teams, analytics engineering, and the domain squads that own the underlying datasets. You will also work closely with Sales to support a fundamentally different GTM motion: solution‑selling with partner clients, joint POCs, multi‑stakeholder deals, and usage‑based commercial models rather than seat‑based subscriptions.

This is a 0‑to‑1 build. If you have built API or data products before and want to do it again in a market where the opportunity is wide open, this is it.

What You’ll Do Product Strategy & Execution
  • Define the product vision and strategy for 9fin’s external data distribution: APIs, data shares, and future delivery mechanisms (cloud sync, pub/sub).
  • Own the data catalogue decisions: which datasets to expose, in what format, through which channels, and in what order, balancing client demand, data readiness, and commercial potential.
  • Design the developer experience end‑to‑end: API design, documentation, developer portal, sandbox/playground, error handling, rate limiting, and versioning.
  • Work with analytics engineering and domain teams to define schemas, data models, and transformation logic that make 9fin’s data consumable and valuable outside the application.
  • Use a partner model to validate early: select and work closely with 1‑2 clients during development to co‑develop and prove out each data product before broader launch.
  • Shape the commercial model for API products: packaging, tiering, usage‑based pricing, distribution controls, and entitlement structures that capture the value of programmatic data access.
Data Quality, Infrastructure & Compliance
  • Partner with the Head of Analytics to ensure data products meet the reliability, freshness, and accuracy standards that enterprise clients building automated systems expect.
  • Define SLAs for data delivery (latency, uptime, completeness) and build the monitoring and metering infrastructure to back them up.
  • Own the entitlements and access control layer: ensuring the right clients can access the right data under the right contractual terms, with appropriate usage limits and controls.
  • Work with Legal to define data usage policies, including restrictions on redistribution, AI training and model embedding, and onward use, protecting 9fin’s data IP while enabling legitimate client workflows.
  • Establish feedback loops between API consumers and domain teams so that usage patterns and client requests improve the underlying data over time.
Cross‑Functional Leadership & GTM
  • Coordinate across platform engineering, analytics engineering, domain squads, and the Head of Analytics to align priorities and ship a cohesive product without a dedicated squad.
  • Influence teams you do not manage; build relationships that make cross‑functional delivery work despite competing priorities.
  • Support the shift to a solution‑selling GTM motion: work with Sales and Customer Success on partner selection, POC design, technical onboarding, and commercial structuring for API deals.
  • Engage directly with enterprise clients and their technical teams during pilots and integrations; this is a client‑facing role, not a back‑office one.
  • Communicate strategy, progress, and trade‑offs transparently to leadership, engineering, and commercial teams.
  • Translate technical API and data infrastructure concepts into language that non‑technical stakeholders (Sales, Legal, Finance) can act on.
What We’re Looking For
  • 5+ years of product management experience, with at least 2 years building API products, data platforms, or data distribution products at a B2B company.
  • Experience designing APIs for external consumers: you have opinions on schema design, versioning strategies, rate limiting, and what makes developer documentation actually useful.
  • Track record of shipping data products where you managed the full lifecycle: from defining what data to expose, through schema design, to commercial packaging and client onboarding.
  • Understanding of data infrastructure concepts: data pipelines, warehouses, ETL/ELT, data modelling, and platforms like Snowflake.
  • Comfortable with SQL and Python and capable of interrogating data to validate quality, understand usage patterns, and inform product decisions.
  • Experience working in a solution‑selling or partner‑led GTM model: you have been involved in POCs, pilots, or co‑development with enterprise clients, not just self‑serve product launches.
  • Proven ability to lead cross‑functionally without a dedicated team: you coordinate across engineering, data, and commercial functions through influence, not authority.
  • Strong commercial instinct: you understand how enterprise data buyers evaluate providers, and you can shape a product that competes on data quality, coverage, and ease of integration.
  • Clear communicator who can translate between technical and commercial audiences.
Nice to Have
  • Familiarity with credit markets, debt instruments, or how buy‑side/sell‑side firms consume financial data.
  • Experience with Snowflake data sharing, marketplace listings, or similar cloud data distribution mechanisms.
  • Experience building entitlements, licensing, or access control systems for data products.
  • Understanding of data licensing, redistribution terms, or AI usage policies in the context of enterprise data products.
Benefits
  • Competitive, market‑benchmarked salary.
  • Pension with 7% company matching.
  • Private medical insurance, paid sick leave, income protection, group life assurance.
  • Season ticket and cycle‑to‑work schemes.
  • Hybrid flexibility with up to 3 months annual work abroad.
  • 25 holiday days plus local public holidays (exchangeable).
  • One‑month paid sabbatical after 5 years; enhanced parental leave.
  • Professional development budget and regular social events.

**Description & Requirements**
Bloomberg runs on data. Our products are fueled by powerful information. We combine data and context to paint the whole picture for our clients, around the clock - from around the world. In Data, we are responsible for delivering this data, news and analytics through innovative technology - quickly and accurately. We apply problem-solving skills to identify innovative workflow efficiencies, and we implement technology solutions to enhance our systems, products and processes - all while providing customer support to our clients.
**Our Team:**
The Data AI group brings innovative AI technologies into the Data organization while contributing deep financial domain expertise to the development of AI-powered products. We partner closely with stakeholders to align AI innovation with Bloomberg's strategic objectives, focusing on optimizing data workflows and elevating the quality, intelligence, and usability of the data that drives our products. Our work amplifies impact by delivering intelligent data solutions and domain-informed systems that enhance the capabilities and competitiveness of Bloomberg's offerings.
**What's the Role?**
We are seeking a Team Leader to drive our Shared Infrastructure programs within Data. This role is central to enabling scalable and responsible data workflows by leading a team passionate about reusable infrastructure, integration patterns, and operational standards across the organization. You will partner closely with Engineering, Product, and Data teams to identify high-impact opportunities, define and implement reusable solutions, and enable consistent, efficient workflows across a distributed set of teams. This includes crafting how capabilities such as automated evaluation and LLM-enabled annotation are adopted and integrated into production workflows, in close collaboration with partner teams who own underlying platforms.
The ideal candidate is a thoughtful and pragmatic leader who combines deep technical fluency with a systems-oriented approach and an interest in emerging data and LLM-based workflows. You are able to translate sophisticated, evolving needs into clear, reusable approaches and scalable patterns, and you are comfortable operating in environments where ownership is distributed across teams. You bring experience contributing to and scaling shared data systems or frameworks, with exposure to evaluation workflows and LLM-enabled pipelines, and a clear perspective on how these capabilities should be integrated into production environments. You excel at identifying patterns across disparate team needs and translating them into well-defined requirements, reusable solutions, and adoption strategies. You are effective at driving alignment and securing partner consensus, particularly in ambiguous environments where success depends on influence rather than direct ownership. You have a track record of building communities of practice and guiding teams toward consistent, scalable approaches without relying on formal authority.
**We'll Trust You To:**
+ Lead and develop a central team responsible for defining and delivering shared data infrastructure and reusable workflow patterns that improve consistency and efficiency across teams
+ Provide technical and strategic leadership, translating diverse team needs into clear requirements, scalable solutions, and well-defined approaches to data workflows, automated evaluation, and efficient annotation
+ Partner closely with Engineering, Product, and Data leaders to identify high-impact opportunities for shared capabilities, align on priorities, and ensure solutions can be optimally put into production within technical, compliance, and cost constraints
+ Act as a central point of coordination for cross-team needs, identifying common gaps, reducing duplication, and enabling consistent approaches without becoming a bottleneck or enforcement layer
+ Ensure shared components, frameworks, and patterns are well-designed, well-documented, and broadly adopted, with a focus on usability, scalability, and real-world impact
+ Mentor and develop data engineers, encouraging a culture of pragmatism, strong technical judgment, and a focus on building solutions that are both scalable and widely usable
**You'll Need to Have:**
+ Prior people leadership experience, ideally guiding teams working on technical, data, or infrastructure-related problems in multi-functional environments.
+ Strong technical judgment in data engineering and shared systems design, with the ability to engage credibly with engineering partners on architecture, trade-offs, and scalable solutions.
+ Experience designing and scaling shared frameworks, systems, or platform-like capabilities across multiple teams
+ Proven ability to operate in ambiguous, high-judgment environments, translating diverse needs into clear requirements and practical, scalable solutions
+ Proven track record of driving alignment and influencing partners across engineering, product, and data teams without direct authority
+ Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with a track record of delivering clear, well-reasoned, and impactful solutions
**We'd Love to See:**
+ Experience with LLM-enabled workflows or annotation pipelines
+ Familiarity with evaluation or data quality frameworks
+ Exposure to regulated or cost-constrained environments
+ Experience partnering with engineering to scale prototypes into production
+ Background in platform, infrastructure, or centralized enablement teams
+ Experience contributing to communities of practice or developer enablement efforts
If indicated, please note that years of experience are a guide; we will consider applications from all candidates who can demonstrate the skills necessary for the role.
