You will play a key part in maintaining, servicing and repairing high-voltage test vans and associated instruments, ensuring they operate safely, reliably and to the highest standards.

You will support planned and reactive maintenance activities, contributing to departmental objectives while delivering service to customers across the UK and Ireland.

Key responsibilities would be:

  • Travel to customer sites throughout the UK and Ireland to carry out servicing, repairs, inspections and testing on high and low voltage equipment.
  • Maintain, service and repair high-voltage test vans and associated cable fault location systems.
  • Produce service, inspection and testing reports, including Health & Safety documentation and risk assessments.
  • Create, update and maintain service schedules, inspection records, calibration certificates, test reports and repair documentation, supporting QHSE requirements.
  • Carry out calibration support, fault diagnosis, preventative maintenance and repairs on high-voltage instruments, ensuring work is completed to agreed timescales.
  • Respond to customer enquiries, providing technical support, service updates and a high standard of customer care.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company procedures, industry standards and Health & Safety legislation.

Experience and skills required:

  • Qualification in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent technical discipline.
  • Experience servicing, maintaining or repairing high-voltage electrical equipment, cable fault location systems or similar electrical instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements relating to high-voltage environments.
  • Strong fault-finding, diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • A practical, methodical approach with excellent attention to detail.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and the ability to complete electronic service reports.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the UK and Ireland, including regular overnight stays.

We are a well-established civil engineering business with specialist divisions operating within the High Voltage sector. With a strong reputation for delivering high-quality projects safely, on time and within budget across the UK, we are looking to expand our clients commercial team with the appointment of an experienced Estimator.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and commercially minded individual to join a growing business and play a key role in securing future work. Reporting directly to the Operations Director, you will be responsible for producing accurate cost estimates and competitive tenders for civil engineering and high voltage infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed and competitive tender submissions in line with client requirements and company standards.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, tender documentation and submission requirements.
  • Produce Bills of Quantities (BoQs) and activity schedules.
  • Carry out accurate quantity take-offs, measurements and pricing.
  • Produce cost forecasts in line with tender programmes.
  • Identify suitable subcontractors and specialist suppliers for each project and assist with the evaluation of subcontractor quotations.
  • Utilise appropriate estimating software and digital tools to complete cost take-offs and estimating activities.
  • Work closely with the Commercial Manager to ensure estimates accurately reflect project requirements, risks and opportunities.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities and recommend cost-effective alternative solutions where appropriate.
  • Support bid submissions and attend tender review meetings.
  • Maintain and update the tender register.
  • Issue tender feedback documentation to clients following submissions.

Requirements

  • Previous experience preparing estimates and pricing construction or civil engineering projects.
  • Degree qualified, or equivalent, in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body or qualification such as RICS, CIOB, RIBA, ICE or CIBSE is desirable.
  • Good working knowledge of NEC3 and NEC4 forms of contract.
  • Strong understanding of pricing, quantification and estimating methodologies.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Experience carrying out drawing take-offs using software such as Bluebeam.
  • Excellent numerical, commercial and analytical skills with the ability to identify risks and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously.
  • Previous experience within the High Voltage sector is essential, including work involving DNOs, substations, power stations, battery energy storage systems (BESS), cable installation and infrastructure projects up to 400kV.

Attend interface meeting with external parties and assign/follow up on actions related to the Design.

Manage all works, including subcontractors, to ensure compliance with project specification, programme and commercial requirements.

Work with the Project Team to produce, maintain and manage the project Integrated Management Plan and all associated documentation. Ensure that all other required project management plans for construction phase are produced and approved as required. Ensure all approved documentation is formally issued and briefed to all appropriate persons and organisations.

Experience/Qualifications:

10+ Years Experience on high voltage projects

Previous experience on National Grid (NG) Projects as an Contractor, preferably on 400kV, 275kV or 132 kV circuits

Knowledge of CDM requirements

Overview:

First Military Recruitment is proudly working in partnership with a fantastic national construction business who are looking to recruit a High Voltage Systems Project Manager on a permanent basis due to growth based at either their Snowdonia depot.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To lead and manage the High Voltage (HV) Cable and HV Plant subcontractors ( in delivering the works and ensuring compliance with all relevant requirements.
  • To manage the HV designer and sub-contractor design activities and deliverables to ensure they are completed in line with the agreed Programme and Project requirements.
  • To be the technical lead for the HV works on the project
  • Ensure both input and output deliverables for the design are tracked and reported to the Project Director and Engineering Manager as required.
  • To manage the MEP designer and sub-contractor design activities and deliverables to ensure they are completed in line with the agreed programme and Project requirements.
  • Manage and communicate all design queries, comments and information required from Design workshops and meetings and keep records.
  • Raise requests for further information internally and externally from the whole project team.
  • Support the Design manager to ensure all HV and MEP design deliverables are timeously provided as per the of design programmes.
  • Review Designers Monthly reports and submissions and produce monthly reports on design progress and any other design specific elements.
  • Manage and update the design deliverable schedule.
  • Review all design deliverables and ensure that they are completed to the expected standard. Challenge and resolve when not, including reviewing of all drawing in line with the Clients Scope/requirements.
  • Attend interface meeting with external parties and assign/follow up on actions related to the Design.
  • Arrange internal design interface meetings with construction department
  • Ensure compliance with design management processes required by the contract.
  • Collaborate with the engagement of external suppliers/subcontractors.
  • Manage provision of drawings to project team – document control.
  • Manage the BIM requirements for permanent and temporary works together with the BIM/CAD Technician.
  • Identify Temporary Works and assist lead TWC with preparing Design briefs for HV & MEP Designs from subcontractors.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 10 Year plus experience with on high voltage projects with a Contractor
  • Previous experience on National Grid (NG) Projects as an Contractor, preferably on 400kV, 275kV or 132 kV circuits
  • Advantage to have experience on Design & Build Project as an Contractor.
  • Previous experience and knowledge of National Grid Transmission Procedures and Technical Specification
  • Wide-ranging understanding and working knowledge of construction methods and outputs
  • Will have both substantial construction and design experience.
  • Understands the Principal Designer and Principal Contractor Duties
  • Exceptional know-how in implementing and promoting Digital Engineering practises in Design as well as construction.

Salary: £75,000 - £80,000 + £6,325 Car Allowance
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week
