You’ll work under one of our Product Directors, enjoying a high degree of trust and empowerment to set the direction of the research function. Your team will lead research across NatWest Boxed (our B2B2C Embedded Finance Business) and Mettle (our award‑winning neobank for small businesses).

You’ll be running a small team of sharp, accomplished User Researchers, shaping the priorities, ways of working, and direction of the function. You’ll draw on your experiences to inspire the team and the business to achieve first‑class results, ensuring an exceptionally high‑quality bar and maintaining a competitive edge in the market. You’ll be the company‑wide ambassador for customer‑centricity, establishing frameworks that couple research strategy tightly to business goals, while educating and supporting the wider organization. You’ll work closely with customer‑facing (ops, sales) and customer‑focused (product, design) functions to understand our customers, helping leadership have a cohesive understanding to ensure they are making the right strategic bets.

What you’ll do Your Core Day‑to‑day Activities Will Involve
  • Overseeing the holistic research roadmap and managing associated budgets, balancing future‑looking discovery work with evaluative experiments that optimize live products.

The skills you’ll need

  • Deep experience with mixed‑methods research, encompassing complex qualitative and quantitative analysis, and the ability to coach teams to bring different data streams together into a cohesive story.
  • A proven track record of driving business results, demonstrating how your team’s research has led to tangible, positive outcomes and improved product performance as well as business outcomes/metrics.
  • Experience leading dynamic research teams as a natural coach, ensuring team members constantly hone their craft and synthesize data into compelling business narratives. You’ll have previously set up and matured a great research function at a scaling organisation.

The Role

We are looking for a Senior Research Manager to drive our research agenda specific to the Insurance vertical .

In June, we plan to launch our first expansion to a new industry vertical, publishing an Index which will rank 30 Insurance companies. In addition to publishing a Key Findings Report, the team will launch several recurring data and insight products that enhance the depth and breadth of our continuing coverage of the intersection of AI x Insurance.

Leveraging the data produced by the Evident AI Index, this role will be responsible for end-to-end production of original research insights—spanning ideation, research design, hypothesis testing, analysis, authorship, and continuing updates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Authoring major research releases profiling the leader of the latest insurance rankings and summarising the overall results.
  • Identifying and contextualizing emerging trends across the methodology driving the Evident AI Index
  • Partner closely with client strategists to define and iterate Evident’s current point-of-view, prioritizing incoming customer questions
  • Launch a series of short-form content summarising need-to-know developments sourced from Evident’s array of data trackers
  • Identify, escalate, and thread together interesting nuggets specific to recent Use Cases, Research Papers, Patent Filing, Job Listings, Press Releases, etc.
  • Interview subject matter experts and industry practitioners to validate our point-of-view and stay ahead of what the industry zeitgeist
  • Liaise with Research Analysts focused on our topical research (Talent, Innovation, Leadership, Responsible AI, Outcomes)
  • Ensure key insights from our wider research portfolio are infused into our industry-specific trends and, conversely, ensure critical questions are proactively addressed in ongoing research, thereby reinforcing the relevance and impact of our collective work.

Core Skills

  • 5-7 years of research and/or consulting experience
  • Direct experience covering the insurance industry
