Salary: Day rate circa £55 per hour
Location: Tadcaster, North Yorkshire
Join a leading engineering and technical company for an exciting short-term project! We are looking for two contract Software Engineers with expertise in Siemens platforms to commission advanced software solutions. This hands-on role involves working on-site and following a 1 pm to 9 pm shift, five days a week, with potential for weekend work as deadlines approach.
Skills required for Contract Software Engineer:
- Siemens TIA V19 including Safety protocols
- Siemens WinCC Unified HMI
- Experience with Motion/Servo Drives
- PackML proficiency
- Keyence Vision Systems experience (preferred)
- Familiarity with Staubli Robots (beneficial but not essential)

Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop automation solutions for manufacturing processes, including PLC programming, HMI/SCADA development, and robotics integration.
- Specify and select appropriate automation hardware and software components.
- Develop control strategies and algorithms to optimize system performance and efficiency.
- Implement and commission new automation systems, both remotely and potentially on-site for critical phases.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to automation systems.

- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, wiring diagrams, and user manuals.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams to ensure integrated solutions.

- Contribute to the standardization of automation platforms and practices across projects.
- Manage vendor relationships for automation equipment and services.

To excel in this role, you will need a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field, with a minimum of 7 years of experience in industrial automation engineering. Proven expertise in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell Automation), SCADA systems, and robotics (e.g., KUKA, ABB, Fanuc) is essential. Strong understanding of industrial networks (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profinet) and data acquisition systems is required. Experience with simulation tools and advanced control techniques is highly desirable. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills are crucial for success in a remote setting.
